The Havahart® Large 1-Door Live Animal Trap is designed by trapping experts to be the most effective, reliable and durable trap of its kind. It is carefully constructed with a fine-tuned tripping mechanism that specially targets heavier critters like cats and raccoons - eliminating false triggers - and a powerful trap door that delivers quick, secure captures.
Simple to Operate
You don't have to be a pro to use this Havahart® large trap. Its design allows users of all experience levels to trap, transport, and release raccoon-sized animals with very little effort.
For You: A solid door and handle guard protect you from contact with a trapped animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body while an animal is inside.
For the Animal: A strong door lock keeps the animal safely inside the trap, while smooth, rolled internal trap edges prevent injuries to animals as they are being transported, or as they struggle to escape.
Havahart® Traps are Built to Last
Havahart® builds the strongest, most durable traps with premium materials, intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable animal behavior. Traps are constructed of industrial-strength, one-piece wire mesh, which is galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion. A solid door and steel reinforcements add to the durability of the trap, ensuring an even longer trap life.

It is a very sturdy trap for up to housecat and raccoon size animals. A very large raccoon might need something bigger. Setting the trap door is simple and the release works with only light pressure. I expect this trap to last for several years and capture many unwanted animals for relocation.

Bought the model #1079 trap ...

Bought the model #1079 trap to relocate a couple of raccoons that were nightly causing damage. The first night of using this trap I discovered the raccoons could get the bait located in the back of the trap without stepping on the trigger plate. That was frustrating. I solved this issue by laying a 1/4" piece of plywood on the pressure plate that extended further to the door opening.
The second night of using this trap (with plywood on the pressure plate) was successful. I heard the trap spring around midnight and saw a raccoon was captured. About 5 AM I got up for the day and was able to see the trap much more clearly. The only raccoon ever caught in this trap has basically destroyed it.
The cheap, thin, sheet metal door has been bent and rendered useless plus the ceiling of the trap has been bent upward. This trap was marketed as a trap for raccoons and other larger animals but clearly it was not designed with enough strength to withstand a raccoon.
Maybe some of the other traps offered here are of better design but I would think twice before purchasing the #1079 trap. Youy will likely be disapointed.
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience with the Havahart® Large 1-Door Animal Trap.
For raccoons and other strong animals, it is important to place the bait behind the trigger plate and secure it as far back in the trap as possible so the animal must fully enter and step on the plate. We appreciate you sharing the modification you made to improve the triggering.
The Model 1079 is designed for larger animals, including raccoons, and the trap should remain functional when used as intended. Damage such as bent wire mesh or doors can occur if a captured animal repeatedly pushes against the trap while attempting to escape. To help reduce this, we recommend checking traps frequently and covering the trap with a towel or blanket after capture to help keep the animal calm.
We value your comments and will share your feedback regarding the trap's durability and design with our product team.

A couple rows of the ...

A couple rows of the mesh in the bait area that are larger and allow raccoons to steal your bait! Hard to believe, but I’ve seen it many times. Doesn’t seem to be any reason why the mesh is larger in these areas.
We appreciate your feedback. Raccoons can be very clever when trying to access bait, and ensuring the bait is placed as far back in the trap as possible can help encourage full entry before they can reach it. Your comments about the mesh design are appreciated, and we will share this feedback with our team.

I bought the x small trap for a mouse problem in my house. I had read some complaints about setting the trap. I bought two traps and had no problem whatsoever as far as setting them. I’ve caught one mouse so far and couldn’t be happier not having to either torture or flat out take their little lives!! I really enjoy using them.
This product comes in two parts - the trap itself and a trigger rod. The rod is separate - a small piece of metal and plastic. It is easy to lose - and i lost it. On calling the company for a replacement i. was told they do not sell replacement parts. so now my options are to try and make one myself or buy a whole new trap. Be careful you dont lose your trigger rod if you buy this brand of trap!
Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to make sure it reaches our design team.

Any animal with get out ...

Any animal with get out when the drive to survive kicks in. Be careful, as an aggressive, stron animal WILL get out of this lightweight built trap which may, or may not, contain the animal for more than a few minutes. I lined the cage with 1/2" steel cloth to also trap small squirrels as the door plate is very sensitive - to even a few ounces. However, containing determined animals is unlikely. A few cents more on some key components would make all the difference in the world ... but as is, I know it isn't up to the job.
When my husband and I moved into our house in the country about a year ago, we were unaware there was a skunk infestation underneath our gazebo. We tried EVERYTHING to get them to move along - every skunk repellent including sprays, moth balls, wolf urine granules, you name it. We also tried bright lights and loud sounds, but this had probably been going on so long that they would rather withstand our onslaught than move. We finally decided to buy this particular trap and bait it with cat food - I've got a brother nearby who has been incredibly helpful in "dispatching" the skunks while I do all the cleanup afterwards. We have now successfully captured six skunks and all six have been "dispatched" in this trap and it works perfectly even after all that. We did also catch a large, angry feral cat once, who also couldn't bust out. 10/10 on this trap.
From day one the trapdoor tends to remain open while rabbits and squirrels eat the nuts, carrots, and/or apple slices. I am very disappointed with your trap and will never by another one and I will not recommend the Havahart trap to others,
New model 1085 does not ...allow the trip plate to rise high ebouth to spring the door closed. There is no rear access to set bait or clean.

The new model 1085 trigger mechanism linkage is too loose so the trip plate lays flat on the bottom regardless of where the sensitivity knob is set. The wire rope cable on the older trap was better.
New model 1085 does not have an access from the rear of the trap to set bait in place or for cleaning.

Is this trap collapsible? I’d like to ship it overseas, so the more compact, the better.

The back door has no device to hold it shut. I'm wondering if I'm missing a piece (maybe a long wire) since I see there's a small metal casing.
