How do I get an animal to trigger my trap?
An animal may be more likely to engage the trigger if you make the animal work for the bait. Spread peanut butter directly onto the plate and place additional bait in the sticky substance for the animal to dig out. TIP: You can also place bait inside a piece of PVC tubing and hang it from the top of your trap, creating a challenge for the animal.
Do you offer anything specifically for stray or feral cats?
Yes, we offer a Feral Cat Rescue Kit, which is specially designed for the capture and short-term care of stray and feral cats.
How far away should I take a live-trapped squirrel so that it doesn't return to my home?
If you plan to relocate a squirrel, it is recommended that you take it at least 3 miles away, preferably on the other side of a body of water or a major highway.* *Before you proceed, Havahart® recommends that you call your local authority to determine the laws regarding trapping, releasing, and relocating animals in your area.
Where should I place my trap?
It is best to place your trap in the area most frequented by your nuisance animal. If you are able, camouflage your trap by covering it with nearby leaves and sticks. If the animal commonly travels alongside the wall of a house or shed, it would be best to use a 2-door trap and place it against the wall with both doors open.
Where should I place the bait in my trap?
The bait should be placed somewhere that requires the animal to fully enter the trap and step on the trigger plate in order to reach it.
How often should I check my trap?
We recommend checking your trap every 30 minutes. The longer an animal is in a trap without food and water, the longer it goes hungry and grows anxious. A hungry, anxious animal can harm itself in an attempt to escape.
Does Critter Ridder repel dogs?
Critter Ridder targets animals' senses of taste and smell, causing them to leave the area and, over time, conditioning them not to return.
Is Deer Off safe to use around children and pets?
Deer Off is safe to use around children and pets when used as directed.
Can I apply snake repellent indoors, or in the crawl space beneath my house?
No. Snake repellents should only be applied outdoors.
If I spray repellents in my yard, will animals go into my neighbors' yards?
Yes, it's quite possible that the animals will move into your neighbors' yards, where they do not detect the scent of a repellent.
