Havahart® X-Large 1-Door Animal Trap
I have an extra large one-door trap, but no idea how to release a raccoon. The instructions say clip the doors together and roll over the trap? With what and how?
Question by: Tom on May 24, 2018, 8:00 PM
To release a raccoon, please lift the door lock on the trap and insert the small end of the Trap Release Tool below the center of the outer door. With the tool, push the outer door against the inner door and clip them together. Then release the door lock and stand behind the trap. With your foot, roll the trap upside down, allowing the doors to fall open and the raccoon to exit the trap.

The clip that holds the door in place broke. I don't see anywhere on the website to order parts.

I have one of the havahart medium traps, seems like the trigger is a bit tight all of a sudden, I've caught 7 squirrels in it but now it seems like it's just not setting the trigger off. I think a critter is coming and eating the food but not setting it off. Is there a way to adjust it to a lighter touch on the pan?
Question by: Jeri w on May 20, 2019, 8:00 PM
We recommend adding a small weight to the trip plate, whether it be a few pebbles or a heavier rock. This will ensure that even the smallest amount of pressure placed on the plate will activate the door.

We have a very large groundhog. I tried using my model 1084 trap previously used to capture a small rabbit, but the trap was too small. The groundhog was able to eat all the bait, trigger the trap and still get out. I think part of his body was in the way and the door could not close fully. Do you think I should get a large or extra large trap?
Question by: Bruce Johnson on May 23, 2019, 8:00 PM
The dimensions for the Large 1-Door Trap (1079) are 31.98" x 10.6" x 12.14", and the dimensions for the X-Large 1-Door Trap (1081) are 42” x 15” x 15”. If you're worried about your groundhog not fitting in the trap, we recommend trying the X-Large trap (1081), as it has the largest opening (15"x 15") as well as the most length (42").
