This trap is not durable enough for raccoons. An adult raccoon can damage the handle on the top of the trap and make it dangerous to relocate the animal. I just spoke with a representative for the company, which happens to be Dynatrap the mosquito company (bought Havahart in the last 5 years), and it all now makes sense why every model of trap that I've come to trust over the years has been discontinued and replaced with cheaper less durable traps. What's worse, the representative told me that I'm supposed to check the trap every hour and I responded with that's not practical for an animal that's nocturnal and that you will not be checking that trap in the middle of the night. So if the traps not durable enough to keep an animal in it for many hours it shouldn't be marketed as a trap that can be used for raccoons. I wished I'd remembered to mention that even picking up an adult raccoon in this trap with a handle that's not damaged is highly questionable because the entire cage flexes and bends under the animal's weight.
Trap does a good job of trapping racoons but if you don't get the raccoon out immediately it will damage the trap handle making it dangerous to attempt to retrieve the animal. The handle on the top of the unit has been bent partially removed three times now by raccoons.
I posted a review and do not see it on your site. 'Trying again.
This model 1045 does not seem good for cats.
I have tried mine AND a friend's with the cat entering and
standing directly on the lever and the doors did not close.
The cat is definitely 10 pounds or more.
Very disappointing because every day is a day the cat can die due to
traffic, predators and poisoned rodents.
I can text or email photos of the cat in the trap if you care to see.
Thank you for this feedback. We're sorry to hear that the trap did not catch the cat as expected. If the animal is too light, small weights can be added to the trip pan to make it more sensitive.
Having previously rated the large animal two door trap as one star, I thought it only responsible to update my review. The original problem was a failure of the locking bar to catch behind the "L" shaped locking tang. The fix was simple. Observing that the square opening on each end of the trap was bowed slightly upward at the top of the opening, I pushed the wire mesh downward until the opening was truly square. That seems to have fixed it. I have now been able to trap and humanely relocate five of my problem and disease laden pests.
I had high hopes of resolving an armadillo problem, so purchased two large Havaheart 2-door traps. While I have successfully channeled animals into the traps, when sprung the door lock-rod often fails to engage with the tang. Consequently, the door opens as soon as the animal pushes against it. I have fiddled with the rods, taped rocks to the door for weight, and have increased the traps' ratio of successfully locking both doors 1 out of 5 times, to 1 out of three times. I had hoped for better performance than this. I would not recommend this trap or Havaheart.
Thank you for this feedback. We are sorry to hear about this unusual experience with the traps. They are covered under a one year replacement policy. Reach out to us via the Contact Us page for assistance.
I have caught 5 woodchucks so far this year and on 2 occasions there were 2 in the same trap at the same time. The new design of the trap from a number of years ago is a tremendous upgrade. Kudos to the design team.
I put the trap outside a burrow and get the desired results very soon. I put cloths over the top in the open where they are grazing if I can't locate their burrow and they can't seem to resist it after awhile. I don't even use bait. I hope not to beat my record of 9 from several years ago.
We are very pleased with this item. It is sturdy and is as advertised. My neighbor had a problem with rats and so we decided to put this trap out. We are very pleased.
Shipping was fast but unfortunately the box trap I received does not work as advertised. I am trapping groundhogs and although I have had groundhogs in the trap they are able to push the trap doors open. I switched to another trap provided by a friend who has trapped for over 40 years, a much more heavy duty trap, and it was effective. My friend's comment about Havahart traps based on years of trapping experience, "Not recommended'.
I almost never offer reviews of products but this product simply did not work.
We are so sorry to hear about this Edwin! When testing the trap yourself, did the doors lock shut?
Our traps are backed by a 30 day return policy and a one year warranty. Please give us a call directly so we can work with you to make this right! - Susan
The product we ordered was described as fully assembled. When we opened the carton, we found a long rod in the bottom of the box. There was nothing in the instructions to describe where the rod was supposed to go. We were unable to properly assemble the rod and activate the two door trigger. We returned the item and are awaiting the credit to our account.
We are sorry to hear that you didn't have better results with the trap John, and are glad that you were able to take advantage of the 30 day return policy. - Susan
