It is carefully constructed with a fine-tuned tripping mechanism that specially targets large animals and eliminates false triggers. Its spring-loaded doors deliver effective captures and prevent escapes.
Simple to Operate
You don't have to be a pro to use this Havahart® two-door trap. Its design allows trappers of all experience levels to capture, transport, and release animals like woodchucks and raccoons with ease. Check out our How To Set video to see how simple the trap is to operate.
Safe for You and the Animal
For You: A handle guard and solid metal doors protect you from contact with the animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body while an animal is inside.
For the Animal: Strong door locks keep animals safely in the cage, and smooth, rolled edges prevent anxious critters from injuring themselves during transport.
A Two-Door Trap is Effective and Versatile
Two spring-loaded doors allow animals to enter from either direction, increasing your odds of a catch. Additionally, a two-door trap can be less intimidating to the animal as it provides a clear path and unobstructed line of sight from one end of the trap to the other. Place two-door traps against walls or along animal travel paths in order to capture critters as they move from either direction. Two-door animal traps can also be set with only one door open, giving you the ability to try different methods of capture.

Review RateCat escaped
Bought this trap to catch a feral cat. The cat was caught in the trap and I transported him into my garage. I set the trap down on the floor and in a flash the cat got out of the trap and ran away. How was he able to get out? The trap Is good and sturdy so I am pleased with it. Just don't know how the cat got out so fast.
Review RateWill not buy another trap
I bought the 2 door extra large from Home Depot to catch a armadillo. First time I set it armadillo tripped it. It bent rod that rod that keeps door from opening and got out. The trap is no good now
Review RateGreat product!
Review RateGreat trap, but could stand a little more "beef" for Armadillos.
We have an Armadillo issue whenever things get dry. They come to dig up landscaping in the beds around the house when the soil in the woods gets to hard and dry. The 2 door trap works great. Just put it behind the shrubs next to the house and they walk right in - no bait needed. I sometimes get two per week in the summer. The only downside is that every now in then, I get a bigger one that is strong enough to damage the trap and even escape sometimes. Usually, I can bend things back into shape and get the trap working again. For Armadillos, the trap could be built a little stronger.
Review Ratelet the trap do it's job
the trap works as it should, have caught my share of groundhogs in it, as that is a severe problem around my home. have not had any problems with setting it, or the trigger mechanism, so maybe all the negative reviews are due to operator error...…..
Review RateVery good trap
Very good trap. I purchased to get a groundhog but before the trap arrived the other family of four skanks mom and three kids took over the groundhogs permisses . Groundhog moved out. To test the trap, if will will be not to big for skunks I setup the trap for them . In 20 minutes I got the mama skunk in the trap. I released her back to my garden concerns about the puppies. I don’t want them to starve to death without mom. However I will trap them later if the puppies grow up. I will release them to the forest. In my opinion this is very good trap for variety of animals.
Review RateA trapped animal is dangerous, especially in a defective trap
I purchased this trap in desperation following repeated property damage by groundhogs. The personnel at the store opened the box and set it for me for which I was grateful. I used sliced apples. The following day apples disappeared. Then, less than a day later from a window I saw the trap rocking and a groundhog was inside. The only problem was that this animal was so mean and agitated he clawed at the sides and top of the trap and dislodged the handle until one end of the handle dangled INSIDE the trap, rendering the trap useless for picking up for release of the groundhog. I was terrified that the animal, having already destroyed the handle mechanism, would then escape the trap. I could not approach the trap and only drove around it. This turned out to be a nightmarish, expensive experience when neighbors who were asked to help did not do so and I was left to my own devices in finding and paying individuals to approach and remove the trap. So scary that I called Havahart and was instructed to file report about this defect in handle mechanism, so far to no avail from the company.Response From Havahart®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We are very sorry for this experience! For consumers who may be less comfortable handling the trap when an animal is inside, the Havahart® Large 2-Door Safe Release Live Animal Cage Trap (Model 998) might be a better option!

Review Ratesloppy release interface on secondary door
I purchased this trap brand new in the box from gsohardware on ebay seller last May... It worked fine last summer but now the secondary door will not fall when the floor plate is pressed. The interface for the secondary door is very, very sloppy. I called havahart and asked them about the warranty... A manager told me that unless gsohardware is an authorized dealer then I am out of luck. Also the warranty is good for only one year. To me it more about the principal than the money. The havahart company engineer should take a close look at the design on that interface. They have had a lot of time to get this right. The most casual observer can tell that the interface need to be improved. To say the least, I am somewhat disappointed in havahart's customer service at this point in time.Response From Havahart®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateWorks great, but needs larger and more secure finger guard plate around carry handle.
Got two of these traps last Summer to deal with a neighborhood invasion of ground hogs/woodchucks which some ignorant neighbor had let move in to their unused garden plot! This is a densely populated neighborhood, in the middle of town, but close to a large field surrounded by wooded embankments. A mother dug a den somewhere in that underused garden plot, and soon she and her young growing specimens were invading everyone's yard and gardens! Actually saw one strolling down the sidewalk on more than one occasion! So I first rented a trap, a much older version of the two door variety. It worked, but when I got a skunk in it, I called a professional and paid him to deal with the trapped animal. He said he'd never use one of those older models, because the animal could simply eventually roll the cage onto it's side, or even over upside down, and in that case the door just opens and the animal escapes. So after that I purchased two new models which have a much more secure door locking system. And they worked beautifully. All in all last Summer I captured 3 woodchucks, 3 skunks, and an opossum! I did not get the easy set style, and it is a bit tricky to get the catch set just so. This year I've purchased the smaller size traps to deal with grey squirrels and I did get the easy set, and that works so slick! If I were to purchase the large sizes again, I would get the easy set for those too. But easy set or not, Havahart traps work beautifully for capturing and relocating critter pests. I gave these only a four star, because the guard plate around the handle, to shield ones fingers from the critter inside, is much too small, and it is not attached very securely. One of mine fell off, and thankfully I noticed and secured it before an animal had got inside. On the older style that I mentioned the whole top of the trap was a solid and that was much safer to pick up and transport. So that older style didn't secure the doors well, but it guarded ones fingers better. The new styles have much better door locks, but much skimpier finger guard plates.
