Designed for You by Trapping Professionals

The Havahart® X-Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap was designed and tested in the field by trapping professionals. This trap is built to target and trap the smallest critters with ease. Thanks to the trap's careful construction, small animals cannot outsmart this mouse trap. The trip plate is sensitive enough that even the lightest animals like voles and mice can effectively trigger the metal door closed. The mesh openings of the cage are smaller than competing traps, so these little critters cannot steal the bait.

Simple to Operate

You don't have to be an expert to use this Havahart® humane mouse trap. Its design allows trappers of all experience levels to capture, transport, and release small animals with ease.

Safe for You and the Animal

A live trap is a humane tool for eliminating these tiny varmints from your home or property, and Havahart® makes the process safe for both you and the animal.

For You: Solid doors and hand guards protect you from contact with a trapped animal.

For the Animal: A strong door lock keeps the animal safely inside the cage, while smooth, rolled internal trap edges prevent injuries during transport.

A Two-Door Trap is Effective and Versatile

This two-door live mouse trap allows you to create a clear path from one end of the cage to the other. This clear line of sight is reassuring to the animal and increases your odds of a catch. Place a two-door trap against a wall or along an animal's path in order to capture it as it travels from either direction. Or choose to set the trap with only one door open, and place it in front of an entryway to catch mice, shrews or voles as they venture inside.

Havahart® Traps are Built to Last

Havahart® builds traps with premium materials intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable critters. This vole and mouse cage trap is made with galvanized steel for optimum resistance against rust and corrosion, ensuring many uses and a long trap life.

Needs access to replacement locking pieces By Baile

I have been using your mouse traps for close to 20 years and really like them...mice like them also...no death involved. The problem is that eventually the little piece of wire that locks the doors on the x small 2 door trap falls out when emptying the trap...sometimes without my noticing and the trap is then worthless. I have plenty of these traps that lack the locking piece because I buy another trap because your company fails to make this simple, low cost, piece available to your customers. I truly want to avoid the presumption that you do so to sell more traps. At the same time, I am suspicious. Why not make this simple part available to your customers ? It would fit into a regular mail envelope and might also be light enough to be sent for the cost of a regular mail stamp. Please make these small locking pieces available to your customers who buy the small mouse trap or include 2 of these locks with the original packaging at time of purchase.

Nope - terrible instructions and the doors don't even close all the way! By mh

Just opened my trap yesterday.... The instructions could use some improvement. After reading several times, I had to use Google to find a video to show me how to set the trap. OK cool now we're rockin n rollin right? Wrong. I had tested my trap several times as the instructions said in order to make sure the trap is working properly...it wasn't. There's no smooth movement to the trap at all. The most important thing to note is that the doors didn't close all the way! There was a decent sized gap left between the closed trap door and the trap floor. I figured I'd give it a go and no surprise to me I woke up this morning and check the trap only to see that trap had gone off but no mouse in it. If it did go in and trigger the trap, it crawled right out the gap left between the doors and floor of the trap. I'm pretty disappointed considering the money spent. I was thinking perhaps I had a bunk trap, but reading these reviews I'm wondering if they're just not good traps in general. I didn't purchase directly from this site, I purchased from a retailer's site and had to wait until it shipped to store for me to go spend my time picking it up and now I'll have to do the same in order to return. How inconvenient!

Works OK but the rod & catch assembly could be made easier & consumer friendly By Whats That Scratching in the walls Horace ?

So far I've had the 1020 trap 3 days & caught two mice One really fat little bugger & one small The only complaint I have is setting the rods & catch takes patience & steady hands The first mouse was caught with both doors open I just couldn't get the trap set with both doors open for the next catch So It works well with just one open Used uncooked oatmeal & Cheerios

You have to fix them before you use them. By Shari

If you buy this trap, be prepared to rework it some. We bought three of them and they all needed work. The bottom of the trap is not flat so the slightest breeze will rock it and it will trip. Bend the bottom flat until it sits without rocking. The bars will need to be bent until they line up properly and you will probably have to file flats on them where the two round bars form the setting mechanism. We've caught dozens of chipmunks in them and relocated them miles away!

terrible; ineffective By bill

useless trap. I tried everything (moving the bait, changing from 2 sided to 1 sided. Every time the chipmunk escaped. It is far too powerful. I have used a gentler trap in the past, caught 6 feral kittens. It uses a hair trigger, subtle activating system, I only had to adjust it once for a particularly clever kitten. With this trap: 4 releases and the animal is still free. Shotgun for a fly; subtlety it isn't. What a waste of money

Response From Havahart®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Hello Bill,

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We apologize for this experience and are happy to assist.  This trap is ideal for very small sized rodents such as mice, shrews, and voles. For slightly larger rodents, such as squirrels and chipmunks, we recommend our Havahart® Small 2-Door Animal Trap (model 1025).

When trapping agile animals such as a chipmunk, it is recommended to tie the bait to the trap or dig a small hole underneath the trap and place the bait inside. This will cause the animal to work harder to access the bait and remain in the trap longer, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

We hope this information is of help. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) with any additional questions.

Hit or miss By DB17

Poor construction with the set rods. Bends were not correct and very difficult to get a round bar to stay set. It needs a partial flat spot. The instructions did not match the actual unit thus that's probably why so many reviews complain about them Once I bent the bars I was able to set it, but only inside as any wind would trigger it The good side is I caught a couple of mice but I also was able to check the trap within an hour. When I had to leave it over night the mice figured out how to escape though the cracks. Thus only 3 stars as the construction and directions along with the escapability factor makes these a hit or miss item

Sensitive Trigger But Works Well By Naturalist

I got the 2 Door Small Trap several months ago and after I tried another brand trap (that supposedly you do not need bait, you just wind it up and the trap is supposed to be able to hold several mice) did not work I tried the Havahart trap. I used a pistachio as bait and after several attempts, Iwas able to secure it on the Trigger. The Trigger mechanism is real sensitive and a pain to set but the main problem is that the bait kept falling off until I was able to secure the bait properly. After about two hours I saw that the one door was closed. The first thought that came to my mind was the door closed on it's own due to the sensitivity of the Trigger. When I went over to take a closer look , I saw a mouse inside

Success! By Ali

These did the trick! I had a whole family of mice (or one really smart mouse that kept coming back) in my attic, and I don't have them anymore. I switched to these after the little guys destroyed two plastic traps. To my knowledge, none of them were able to escape through the bars or under the door--I never saw the bait eaten without a mouse inside. Happy hunting!

Q&A
Q.Can a 2 door trap be used as a 1 trap also?
A.

Yes, a two door trap can also be set with only one door open.

Q.I have a one acre property and last year lost many plants to a very significant infestation of voles, which worsened after the death of our dog. I garden about 1/3 of the property. How many traps do you recommend for that area? Also, do these sit above ground or are they laid into the ground where the voles tunnel? Thank you in advance for your help
A.

These traps need to be on the ground or else they would not trigger properly. How many to buy would be at the buyer's discretion, depending on how many voles there are and how many you would like to trap at a time.

Q.I am dealing with voles in my garden. Where should I place the traps? Near a tunnel hole? In the general area? Everywhere? Help!
A.

Traps should be placed directly in line with surface runways. Voles are predictable and typically only travel along established runways within their small range, so placing your traps here will give you the greatest chance of catching them.
