Designed For You by Trapping Professionals

The Havahart® Small 2-Door Live Animal Trap was designed by trapping experts for the most efficient humane rodent captures. It's carefully constructed so that small critters will not outsmart it - the trip plate is sensitive so that lightweight animals like chipmunks and rats can effectively trigger the door closed, and the mesh openings are much smaller than competing traps, so little critters can't steal the bait or escape.

Simple to Operate

You don't have to be a pro to use a Havahart® trap. This trap's already assembled out of the box, and its design allows trappers of all experience levels to capture, transport, and release small animals with ease.

Safe for You and the Animal

For You: A solid metal handle guard and solid doors protect you from contact with the animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body while an animal is inside.

For the Animal: Strong door locks keep animals safely in the cage, and smooth, rolled edges prevent anxious critters from injuring themselves during transport.

A Two-Door Trap is Quick and Versatile

A two-door trap allows you to create a clear path from one end of the trap to the other by setting it with both ends open. Place this trap against a wall or along an animal's path in order to capture it as it travels from either direction. In order to access the bait and get to the other end, a chipmunk or squirrel must step on the trigger plate, resulting in a catch.

Havahart® Means Built to Last

Havahart® builds strong, durable traps with premium materials, intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable critters. This trap is constructed of industrial-strength one-piece wire mesh, which is galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion, ensuring more uses and a long trap life.

Great trap, but size one up for gray squirrels By Carolyn

Too small for gray squirrels. That said, the trap works *great* for the right sized animal. The squirrels went in the door snapped shut, but their tails propped the door open, so they could get back out. I called Havahart to tell them, and they told me I need the medium sized trap. No hassle return to Home Depot (and Havahart would have dealt with the return if the retailer had balked, which was great!). Within 24 hours of getting the medium trap, 6 squirrels have been safely and humanely relocated out of my vegetable garden. Thank you Havahart!

Quick fix By EMS40

Only had the trap 3 hours. Had a little red squirrel terrorizing our house by running through the soffits. Thought I had everything closed off, but the little bugger found a way in and was running a 5K at our expense. Finally bought the trap, a bit of peanut butter, and he was mine. Took him to the other side of the river to live happily ever after. Super trap for small critters.

Trapped and relocated 25 chipmunks with a Havahart trap By Wes

These traps work great. Had a chipmunk epidemic around my house. Over the course of a summer, I trapped and relocated 25 chipmunks to a Forest Preserve five miles away. Did not need any bait whatsoever. I set the trap along the outside wall of house where they traveled and averaged one chipmunk a day. Also caught a sparrow and a small rabbit which I released into my yard. I still have chipmunks around, but they stay on the back of my lot instead of digging holes around my home.

Chipmunk escape artist By Nightmareartist

The trap got a chipmunk right off. But he muscled his way out of the lower corner when I got close. Got him the next time. Reset it for another and the trap tripped but no critter inside. Must be getting out the same way. Would really like to know a fix to keep the door tightly closed. The next step is mouse traps and I really don't want to kill him over tomatoes.

Works great--success in a short time! By Debbie

was horrified to find a chipmunk had slipped into my house...the chipmunk was pretty horrified, as well.. After chasing it all over the house with a broom and watching it dart AWAY from the open door, I went to Lowe's and bought this trap. Was able to contain the chipmunk to the bedroom, of all places. Of course, we slept in another room... Last night we tied the doors open and let the little monster try the reward of a Cheez-Nip with peanut butter on it. Today, we set the trap with the same treat. One thing we found out is that if there is a lot of activity, the animal stays in hiding. But after we left home for a few hours, we came back and the little guy was in the trap. Though scared, he still evidently enjoyed the bait! This works great and I am thankful for the humane aspect. When I set him free in the back yard, he took off and then ran back. Think he was thanking me? :)

Works great at first but Squirrels outsmart it. By Gard'ner Wannabe

Works great (If you follow baiting instructions!) at the beginning of each season and catches 2 or 3 squirrels, but- They soon learn to stretch their body. The trap trips but they hold the door open, eat all the bait, and back out. Also, the doors don't latch so dogs roll the trap, doors fall open, squirrel escapes. I use this for ground squirrels in California. For only a few critters and no dogs it is a good trap, get one and place bait under the trip plate. Otherwise get the kind with a locking door.

Thank you for providing this feedback.  We apologize for the experience.

When other animals may upset the trap, we recommend weighing it down with a heavy rock or placing it where it will be undisturbed.  Placing the bait under the trip plate is a great tip, as it increases the interaction by the squirrel.  Attaching the bait to the cage in some fashion can also keep a squirrel busy and trapped.

Great trap. By GrandPa

We bought our first 2 door trap to capture a flying squirrel that got into our house. i worked like a champ. The box said that it would would for also trap chipmunks which inundate our yard. they work great. especially when placed in the correct places. In the past i've tried home made swimming pool traps they worked, but they were ackward and took a lot of seeds and didn't always work. Putting the traps near the chipmunk holes worked great and didn't destroy the view of the landscape. The only tricky issue was the senativity of setting the trap.

Not worth it. By Andrew

I've had this trap for two weeks and all I've accomplished is feeding the damn squirrels. I've tried two dots open and one door open. Never caught a thing.

Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for sharing this experience. When trapping an agile animal such as a squirrel, it is very important to bait in a way that will cause the critter to interact more with the trap and remain in the trap longer. We would like to learn more about the baiting and trapping methods that were used so we may offer additional assistance.

Unhappy Customer By Kevin.

Hi. I purchased a animal trap (small size 2 door) few weeks ago to remove a critter from our kitchen. This critter came out during the night. We had to make sure all our foods were secured away. I set up the trap using various foods. Each morning the food was gone along with the critter (later discovered to be a rat) Sometimes I would set it up and other times my wife would set it up in case we were setting it up wrong, which we dident. up. The end was always the same the trap dident close shut on the rat. I eventually caught the rat with peanuts and a rat trap. I am very unhappy with this product as it did not work the way it was supposed to. I feel I should be refunded the cost of this item (small animal trap). Now I did purchase a bird feeder which we love as it works do well against the squirrels. Thank you.

Hello Kevin,

We appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback and apologize for the experience.

When setting up this trap, we recommend placing the bait in a way that will increase the interaction with the trigger pan. Putting the bait under it or hanging it above will prevent the animals from deftly retrieving the bait.

Our traps are covered by a 30 day money-back guarantee. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) for additional assistance.

Havahart needs to improve its advice to novices! By James

Almost a month ago, black squirrels invaded my attic. My only solution is to trap and release them before closing their means of access. Having no experience in this field and after an extensive discussion with a Havahart agent, we mutually decided that this trap would be suitable. It is not! I have discovered that the traps [I bought 3] are too small for black squirrels. Despite being listed as a "squirrel trap" - it would have been a great help - if Havahart flagged it as: "not suitable for black or grey squirrels". I am now saddled with 3 useless traps and because my problem is unresolved, I have to make a second purchase of the larger "medium" traps.

Response From Havahart®
Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Hello James,

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We apologize for this experience and would like to take this opportunity to make things right.

This squirrel trap is versatile and can be set with either one or two doors open. When set as a one door trap, the bait can be placed further back, which forces a longer animal such as a squirrel to fully enter the trap.

When baiting this trap, it is also recommended to secure the bait to the trap. This method of baiting will cause the animal to work harder to access the bait, remain in the trap long, and put more pressure on the trip plate, which can increase the chances of a successful catch.

We would like to learn more about this experience with this squirrel trap so we may offer additional assistance. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) with any questions.

Q.The model 1025 trap I bought at Home Depot says "Ideal for Catching: Red and Flying Squirrels". Can I also use it for catching the bigger gray squirrels here in North Carolina? Or should I use a larger trap?

This trap is designed to catch chipmunks, rats, squirrels, weasels, and other similarly sized animals. If the squirrels being captured are larger, a small size one door trap can be used as well as a one or two door medium sized trap.

Q.Can this rap be used for crows? If not, do you have any for crows? Thanks

We do not manufacture traps to capture crows. For birds, we do offer repellents such as Spray Away: http://www.havahart.com/search?q=spray+away .

Q.I have a havahart 16x6x6 trap packaging specifically labeled havahart trap for Chipmunks as bait i use peanut butter. I have placed the peanut butter on , under and beyond the trip pan and the chipmunk eats the peanut butter and never springs the trap?

Try hanging the bait from the top of the trap using a stocking of cheesecloth. A one door setting would provide a better catch rate for a chipmunk as well. Please call our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) for additional assistance.
