safe for you and the animal

Safe for You and the Animal For You: A handle guard and solid doors protect you from coming into contact with the animal while it is inside the trap. The handle allows you to carry the trap away from your body during transport.

For The Animal: Strong door locks keep animals safely in the cage, and smooth, rolled edges prevent anxious critters from injuring themselves during transport.

Two-Door Design for Higher Catch Rates The dual door function allows you to create a clear path from one end of the trap to the other by setting it with both ends open. Place the trap against a wall or along an animal’s path in order to capture it as it travels from either direction. In order to access the bait and get to the other opening, the animal must step on the trigger plate, resulting in a catch.
2 doors for higher catch rate
Five Stars QUIT STALLING, BUY IT."After 6 months of having an annoying attic critter, l bought the two door trap. I set the trap in the attic, baited with peanut butter on a cracker, and two hours later – problem solved. The freeloading chipmunk was taken back to woods.”

Trap too sensitive By Larry617

Unfortunately this trap is way too sensitive. Trying to gently place bait on the tray is usually unsuccessful because even a light touch sets it off. Or if you ARE successful, moving the trap into place, ever so gently, sets it off. Or, the worst: I got it set up, but the squirrel bumped into it before it could scamper inside. Bam. Doors slammed shut. Fail. Major disappointment with this product.

I have had this trap for 4 years. It works. Have trapped as many as 12 grey squirrels per year the trick,,,,,,,,,,,,,do not use nuts strictly as the bait. spread a gob of peanut butter over the back portion of the tray. They cant resist the scent. Place trap on a squirrel "game trail". Now, Go getcha some critters

Too Small For Gray Squirrels By Sam

This trap should NOT be advertised as a squirrel trap as it is too small in length. I've watched squirrels go into the trap several times and stretch to get to the bait while their back hindquarters are still outside of the trap door. When they trigger the trap, the trap door hits them on their back and they run off. I've also tried using it as a one door trap with the bait all the way to the back, but had the same results because they still trigger the bait tray in the same manner as the 2-door set up. I would HIGHLY recommend a larger size.

They work By Ces

I bought the small 2 door trap to catch the red squirrels we had living in our garage, and the grey squirrels trying to chew a way into the attic. Well it was great for the red squirrels, but the grey ones are so big they just push their way back out of the trap. Their back ends are still out the door and holds it up long enough for them to get the nuts, and back out !! My father, decades ago, had bought a large havahart trap to keep the raccoons out of the garden, and this one has been working great on the grey squirrels- so Lucky it still functions after over 40 years of use!

Great trap By KMS

I live in a remote log cabin. I often get field mice but they don't do much damage until I can get them out. But this year a busy-tailed wood rat, more commonly known as a pack rat, came into the house and, although he was certainly the cutest rat I've ever seen, he was very destructive. I didn't want to kill him. I just wanted him out. The very first night I put the Havahart trap down I caught him and found him a lovely wooded area about four miles from my home.

More sesitive triggers are needed By JP

I have been trying to catch chipmunks with limited success. More often than not they are able to steal the bait without tripping the cage. Apparently the trigger mechanism needs to be more sensitive. I have caught a few but most times I find the bait gone and the doors are still open. I have tried sunflower seeds and peanut butter for bait with about the same results.

To increase the sensitivity of this trap, we recommend adding weight to the trigger pan. This may be done with small stones, magnets, or metal washers. The trap may also be set as a single-door trap, and bait placed at the base of the closed door. We appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback, and have shared your comments with our Product Managers. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) with any questions. We are happy to help!

Worked great for all but 1 By Lori

I have the trap a 3. There needs to be a smaller one for mice. I have trapped and relocated many mice from my garage with this trap. It really has been a huge blessing. Now I have a mouse in the basement. He must fit out of the trap somehow because the trap is often closed but he isn’t in it. At first I thought he must be bumping it and it’s closing before he gets inside. Then I discovered he has eaten the meal of Pb placed on the plate and lots of poop under the cage. So he was in there. So disappointed he can fit out because I am so happy to just humanely relocate the mice. I was hoping he’d get a little bigger and not fit out.

Alvin and Theodore the singing chipmumks By Vernon

Have used Havahart traps in the past to catch raccoons, possum's and muskrats many times. What a surprise when I saw a few chipmunks running in and out the bottom of my shed. ALL my traps were too large for critters so small so I ordered two of the Havahart two door traps. I use a mix of fresh nuts and trapped them all in three days. I hope they like living in the woods.

Q.What size are the openings in the “mesh” material? Chipmunks can squeeze thru a very small opening.

The mesh is 1" wide by 1/2" tall.

Q.I have been successful at catching voles with the small 2 door trap, however, now the rabbits have come and can scrunch down and remove the bait from trap without getting caught since they are too big for the doors to come down and lock while they are inside. I do not want to catch the rabbits; only the voles. Suggestions?

Rabbits love leafy greens and root vegetables, while voles can be tempted by small nuts, oatmeal mixed with peanut butter, or bread and butter. Shifting your choice of bait from fruits and veggies could deter rabbits from trying to enter the trap. If changing bait does not do the trick, try adding our Critter Ridder® Weatherproof Rabbit Repelling Stations. Rabbits will dislike the smell of the dried blood within the station, and stay away.

Q.The model 1025 trap I bought at Home Depot says "Ideal for Catching: Red and Flying Squirrels". Can I also use it for catching the bigger gray squirrels here in North Carolina? Or should I use a larger trap?

This trap is designed to catch chipmunks, rats, squirrels, weasels, and other similarly sized animals. If the squirrels being captured are larger, a small size one door trap can be used as well as a one or two door medium sized trap.
