Safe for You and the Animal For You: A handle guard and solid doors protect you from coming into contact with the animal while it is inside the trap. The handle allows you to carry the trap away from your body during transport.
For The Animal: Strong door locks keep animals safely in the cage, and smooth, rolled edges prevent anxious critters from injuring themselves during transport.Two-Door Design for Higher Catch Rates The dual door function allows you to create a clear path from one end of the trap to the other by setting it with both ends open. Place the trap against a wall or along an animal’s path in order to capture it as it travels from either direction. In order to access the bait and get to the other opening, the animal must step on the trigger plate, resulting in a catch.

Review RateGreat trap
I live in a remote log cabin. I often get field mice but they don't do much damage until I can get them out. But this year a busy-tailed wood rat, more commonly known as a pack rat, came into the house and, although he was certainly the cutest rat I've ever seen, he was very destructive. I didn't want to kill him. I just wanted him out. The very first night I put the Havahart trap down I caught him and found him a lovely wooded area about four miles from my home.
Review RateMore sesitive triggers are needed
I have been trying to catch chipmunks with limited success. More often than not they are able to steal the bait without tripping the cage. Apparently the trigger mechanism needs to be more sensitive. I have caught a few but most times I find the bait gone and the doors are still open. I have tried sunflower seeds and peanut butter for bait with about the same results.Response From Havahart®Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative
To increase the sensitivity of this trap, we recommend adding weight to the trigger pan. This may be done with small stones, magnets, or metal washers. The trap may also be set as a single-door trap, and bait placed at the base of the closed door. Review RateWorked great for all but 1
I have the trap a 3. There needs to be a smaller one for mice. I have trapped and relocated many mice from my garage with this trap. It really has been a huge blessing. Now I have a mouse in the basement. He must fit out of the trap somehow because the trap is often closed but he isn’t in it. At first I thought he must be bumping it and it’s closing before he gets inside. Then I discovered he has eaten the meal of Pb placed on the plate and lots of poop under the cage. So he was in there. So disappointed he can fit out because I am so happy to just humanely relocate the mice. I was hoping he’d get a little bigger and not fit out.Response From Havahart®Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateAlvin and Theodore the singing chipmumks
Have used Havahart traps in the past to catch raccoons, possum's and muskrats many times. What a surprise when I saw a few chipmunks running in and out the bottom of my shed. ALL my traps were too large for critters so small so I ordered two of the Havahart two door traps. I use a mix of fresh nuts and trapped them all in three days. I hope they like living in the woods.
Review Ratenot for squirrels
Recently purchased one of these traps from home depot to catch a squirrel which has taken up residence in my basement, I have baited the trap no less than 5 times. Bait has been taken from the trap, I assume through the side of the trap. The trap has been triggered and no squirrel to be found in the trap, Conclusion, this trap is to small to be an effective squirrel trap and should not be sold as a trap for squirrelsResponse From Havahart®Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback! When bait is stolen from a trap, we recommend placing the bait so it is more difficult for the squirrel to obtain. This can be done by burrying the bait beneath the trap, or by suspending it from the top of the trap. This way the animal is engaged in obtaining the bait when the trap triggers, locking them inside. Review RateWaste of money, and not suitable for tree squirrels.
This trap is sold for squirrels, but I suspect it is too small for its intended purpose. I've been trying to trap a couple of problem squirrels who keep eating my fruit trees, and this trap has been repeatedly "sprung" by the squirrels, but one has yet to be captured. I've tried two and one door open setups with this trap, and a variety of setup locations. I've tried elevated and anchored setups, as well as ground setups. I've also ensured that the locking wire is in the proper location on the trap to secure the door when it shuts... basically, everything is setup correctly, but it isn't catching squirrels. If I had just used a Conibear 110 I would have already solved this problem, but I really wanted to try the "nice" (and expensive) method, instead of the methods that work. My apple crop continues to dwindle, and now the squirrels have some peanut butter to go with my apples. I'm pretty disappointed in this trap so far.Response From Havahart®Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

Not been able to catch... bait is taken and the doors get tripped but the animal is able to evade capture???Response From Havahart®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
We apologize for this experience! From this description, it sounds as if the animal may either be too large to fit inside the trap or they are not fully inside the trap before the door closes. In these cases, we recommend setting the trap with one door and placing the bait all the way in the back of the trap. Changing the bait may also work well to ensure it is attracting the target animal only.

Review RateThey never have failed me
I am 70 years old and I have used the Havahart traps for such a long time and none compare to them. I will always continue to use these traps of various sizes depending on their quarry.
Review RateResident chipmunk no more
Had a chipmunk enter my home. Took up residency. Sunday afternoon when he appeared. We managed to corral him in the bathroom. Found a hiding space alongside bathroom vanity. First day I attempted to use glue traps. Useless. After work I purchased the small 2 door. Worked the lever to release with slight touch. Through cashews in the opening to get it interested. Next morning the nuts were gone. Placed more past the trigger plate. When I got home I caught my little friend. No disguising the trap. Just simple step s to get it interested. I say they are a blessing. I'm rid of the critter. Happy customer
Review RateOutsmarted by Chipmunks
This trap is supposed to work for chipmunks. I probably baited this with peanuts at least 20 times and I have caught one chipmunk. I actually see them walk into the trap, steal the bait, and walk out. This does not seem to be sensitive enough for the light weight of chipmunks. It was a waste of money.Response From Havahart®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for sharing this feedback! We are very sorry for this experience. To ensure the trap is working correctly, we recommend setting it and manually tripping it by reaching through the side of the trap. Does it close with little force? If so, we recommend setting the trap with one door and placing the bait all the way in the back of the trap. Placing a washer/pebble on the trigger plate may also be helpful to increase the sensitivity of the trap.
