Designed For You by Trapping Professionals

Designed and field-tested by trapping professionals, the Havahart® X-Small 1-Door Live Animal Trap is built to ensure a quick, safe trapping experience, every time. Thanks to its careful construction, it can be used as a flying squirrel trap, weasel trap, chipmunk trap or virtually any small rodent trap, because these tiny animals can't outsmart it. The trip plate is sensitive enough that even the lightest animals can effectively trigger the door closed, and the mesh openings are smaller than competing traps, so little critters cannot steal the bait.

Simple to Operate

You don't have to be a pro to use this Havahart® extra small trap. Its design allows trappers of all experience levels to capture and transport flying squirrels, weasels and other rodents with ease. And it's the only trap with a guillotine-style door, which can be lifted from the top to avoid making contact with the animal.

Safe for You and the Animal

A live cage trap is a humane tool for eliminating small rodents from your home or yard, and Havahart® makes the process safe for you and the animal. For You: A solid door and handle guard protect you from contact with a trapped animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body while an animal is inside. For the Animal: A strong door lock keeps the animal safely inside, while smooth, rolled internal trap edges prevent injuries to animals as they are being transported or as they struggle to escape.

Havahart® Traps are Built to Last

Havahart® builds the strongest, most durable traps with premium materials, intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable animal behavior. Traps are constructed of industrial-strength, one-piece wire mesh, which is galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion. A solid door and steel reinforcements add to the durability of the trap, ensuring an even longer trap life.

Needs work, but I'd buy another By TM

Like one or two other purchasers, my X-Small 1-Door Trap came with a production flaw that prevented use. The largest chipmunk who ever lived could not have weighed enough to trip it. Pardon me while I use my own descriptive terms, but the rod that pivots under the plate, exits the cage and bends upward was too short in the horizontal section and did not protrude far enough on the outside of the cage. When set, the upward-pointing section of the plate-rod pulled the downward-pointing door-operating rod hard against the wire of the cage and the resulting spring tension made the plate a very sturdy platform indeed. Fortunately, there was an easy fix. Taking a Dremel tool and a small cutting wheel, I removed a tiny piece of horizontal cage-wire directly behind the two rods, 2 inches up from the bottom of the cage. Now, when set, the downward-pointing door-operating rod intrudes slightly into the cage with no tension. The trap now works very well, as advertised, but it gets a one-star penalty for the production flaw.

Great product will recommend to others! By Alex

Bought the three pack and in the first week captured and moved 10 Chipmonks from around our deck. Slowed to two the second week. The traps are easy to use. This solved our problem.

Excellent for trapping chipmunks By john

I bought this trap because of all of the chipmunks running amuck. It's turned out to be a great investment. So far, 6 chipmunks caught by merely putting black sunflower seeds in a small sandwich bag to act as an enticement. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to trap chipmunks. I also caught a small red squirrel, but transferred it to another cage as the trap door is nowhere strong enough to keep a squirrel caged.

Works. But a squirrel escaped By Araon

We caught 5 squirrels using this trap in our yard. (not the big grey squirrels, they were pine squirrels). But one day we caught a another pine squirrel, we were busy so we didn't release it right away. After like 2 hrs we came back and the squirrel was gone, and the trap door is still closed. So I checked the camera, turns out the squirrel managed to push the door up a bit and escaped.

Thank you for the time taken to provide this feedback.  We apologize for the experience.

We recommend checking traps frequently and placing a blanket or towel over the trap if the animal cannot be relocated immediately.  This will help calm the animal and reduce the efforts to escape.

Our traps are covered by a one year replacement warranty.  Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) for additional assistance.

Six down and more to catch. By Dutchman

I bought the one door trap because I am only after the chipmunks. When I do catch a squirrel, I release him. This one door trap is fabricated with top quality. Have a Heart really knows how to build an excellent trap. I usually take the trap loaded with the chipmunk and drive about 2 miles away and release him in a wooded area. I hope they can't find their way back.

The Havahart x-small no-kill trap looks good, seems to work good---but only ONE rat in THREE WEEKS is unacceptable. By J D M = J. D.

Sirs: I have used the Havahart "x-small professional style no-kill rat/mouse trap" for three weeks and have caught just ONE rat. Are rats and mice smart? They sure have bamboozled ME. I believe I set the [duplicate] two traps right. The traps are each camouflaged by a dish towel draped over each cage. I used peanut butter as bait, with 3 lightly-buttered pats inside leading up to the well-buttered pat of p.b. on the Back Side of the pressure plate. Right outside the open front door I scattered plus-or-minus 15 black oil sunflower seeds (= bird food). The vermin ate ALL the pats of p.b. right up to the trip plate, and then stopped, never (visibly) having touched the heavily baited teeter-totter/flip-up plate. They carried all the sunflower seeds 3 feet away from the cages and cracked them open, leaving just the husks. Looks like they had a party. On me. Night after night this pattern has repeated itself. {Intermittently I have of course relocated the traps around the hallway, leading to the five back rooms where their poop was observed.} Such poor luck. Can there be a design flaw? I noticed the trip plate does not rise up 45 degrees in front, only 30+ degrees. I test it by using a long wooden spoon, touch the front of the trap plate very lightly and the trap door falls shut as it should. If the problem is the user, I confess I don't know what I did wrong re these no-luck traps. One other customer reviewer said he re-jiggered the tripping mechanism with some pliers in some way and his problem of no-rats was solved. I'm afraid if I start manhandling the traps I might succeed in ruining them for good. I want to use my Havahart no-kill traps, but the nasty little critters by now are in the HOUSE---hence there is NO ROOM for peaceful coexistence: the rats MUST GO---SOMEhow..... Is there a design flaw at work, or is it me who's doing something wrong? One rat trapped in three-weeks-plus naturally is way unacceptable. I need some improvement NOW. Suggestions? I am gob-smacked. I need help of some kind. I have lately observed these demonic fiendish little varmits laughing at me. Falling off the chair laughing uproariously, I swear.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We apologize for this experience and are happy to assist.

When trapping, we recommend to only provide bait at the end of the trap, behind the trigger plate. Providing bait leading up and into the trap may cause them to leave once they have eaten all of the easy to access food.

For best results, secure the bait to the trap, in the area behind the trigger plate. Zip ties, nylon stocking, or cheese cloth can be used to attach the bait to the trap. Alternatively, a small hole can be dug underneath the trigger plate with bait placed inside.

These baiting methods will cause the animal to enter the trap fully and work harder to engage the trap and trigger plate to access the bait, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) so we may provide additional trapping assistance.

Q.Once you trap rats, where is the safest place for them to be released so they don't go somewhere and get poisoned or where there are no snakes or owls....?????

Once a rat has been caught, we recommend releasing it 2 miles away, preferably on the other side of a natural barrier such as a highway or river.

Q.Are any repair parts available for the xsmall one door trap. As after trapping a couple of squirrels they where able to brake the spring latch. Thanks for your help.

We do not have replacement parts available, but all our traps are covered under a one-year replacement warranty in case of damages. Please call 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) for further assistance.

Q.How does the gravity-action guillotine door function? Think I may be missing parts.

To set the trap, press the door lock tab against the door and lift. Rotate the top trrigger rod so that it catches just below the small notch in the bottom center of the door. The opposite end of the trigger rod should be positioned vertical to the trap and held against the wire frame. Take the trigger pan rod and position it so that it is vertical and directly in front of the trigger rod.
