Safe for You and the Animal

For You: A solid handle guard and solid doors protect you from contact with the animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body, while an animal is inside.

For the Animal: Strong door locks keep animals safely in the cage, and smooth, rolled edges prevent anxious critters from injuring themselves during transport, or as they try to escape.

A Two-Door Trap is Fast and Versatile

A two-door trap allows you to create a clear path from one end of the trap to the other by setting it with both ends open. Place this two-door trap against a wall or along an animal’s path in order to capture it as it travels from either direction. In order to access the bait and get to the other end, a rabbit or skunk must step on the trigger plate, resulting in a catch.

Havahart® Means Built to Last

Havahart® builds the strongest, most durable traps with premium materials, intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable animal behavior. Made in the USA, this trap is constrcuted of industrial-strength, one-piece wire mesh, which is galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion. Solid doors and steel reinforcements add to the durability of the trap, ensuring an even longer trap life.

Could use stronger/thicker metal By Bob

Like the size, and the extra hook on the door for the latch to stay down is nice when an animal flips the trap over. However I see a problem with the top metal square where the handle is attached, very positive any animal will be able to bend the flimsy metal and get out. Had a squirrel in this trap for only an hour or two and the metal was already bent.

A 6 in. longer trap is the answer for catching squirrels By John

After using the 1030-B trap for a year now I've found that a few modifications were needed to assure success. First; I found that using it as a 2 door trap did not work. The squirrels were too fast and the doors too close so they were able to propel themselves out when the trap sprung. What I have done is locked the one door down and put a bait holding tray beyond the trigger lever so that the squirrel has to commit a greater part of it's body within the trap. Of course a trap that was 6 inches longer would be the answer.

Looking for a longer trap By Mountain Mel

I don't want to "settle" for this model, which according to multiple comments, is just too short. What I want is the model 1040, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. What gives?

What type of animal is being trapped? This trap is recommended for Rabbits, Skunks and Squirrels. We apologize as the Model 1040 trap is obsolete. For additional assistance, please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242).

A little bit disappointed/frustated By TrapperJoe

I agree with SRP man - your trap should be longer - the squirrel escapes faster than the door closes. If the trap was about 4 to 6 inches longer, then the animal would not have the opportunity to exit. Have only had a 30% success rate - eastern gray squirrels are relatively large for their species, and they are clever. Using only one door does help - a little bit - as you suggested.

1030B trap too short for squirrels By SRP Man

I've been setting the 1030B trap for squirrels for a while now and have found it to have less than a 50% success rate due to the fast reflexes of the squirrels and the short length of the trap. The wise squirrels will stretch out with the rear claws at the edge of the trap opening to reach the bait and when the trap door begins to fall; the squirrels are fast enough to escape the falling door. As far as squirrels are concerned; the trap needs to be 6 inches longer so that the squirrel is totally inside before the door falls.

Response From Havahart®
Tara : Consumer Relations Representative

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we apologize for this experience. We recommend using the trap with only one door open. Place the bait towards the closed door where there squirrel cannot reach in and get it. The squirrel will need to go all the way in the trap to get the bait. The bait can also be hung from the top of the trap to make getting the bait more difficult.

They work! By Satisifed User
I bought a small and medium trap cage for squirrels. The small one did capture a
squirrel, but I would recommend buying the medium size for adult squirrels. The locking mechanism design requires attention when moving a captured squirrel as it can easily open (and did) before you're ready to release. Other than that, I am happy with the overall design and will buy more medium size cages in the future.

Q&A
Q.I live in Southwest FL. Should I use a small or medium size trap for our squirrels. Can the trap be used in the attic or just outside?
A.

We recommend using a small or a medium trap for squirrels such as the model 1025 or 1030. For a full list of traps recommended for squirrels, please visit our website and select "Squirrels" under the "Shop By Animal" heading. All of our live animal traps can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Q.Where do you place the bait in the 2 door trap?
A.

This trap can be set with one or two doors open. When baiting, we recommend either tying the bait to the trap just above the trip plate (if using 2 door option) or behind the trip plate (if using one door option). Alternatively, a small hole can be dug under the trap with bait placed inside.

These methods will cause the animal to work harder to gain access to the bait, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

Q.So I have rabbits that are large. I put bait on the 1030 trap and they just eat the bait on the tray and leave. The trigger is not activated. Is there something to do to make it more sensitive?
A.

If the rabbits are able to steal the bait without engaging the trigger pan, additional baiting methods may be necessary. We recommend tying the bait to the top of the trap so it hangs down, or digging a small hole under the trap and placing the bait inside. These methods will cause the animal to work harder to access the bait by engaging with and putting pressure on the trip plate, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

This trap also can be set with one door open and the bait tied to the far end of the trap. The rabbits will then have to fully enter the trap and cross the trip plate in order to access the bait.
