I, too, lost the trigger arm. From Havahart admin, I see the response to the concern, "Unfortunately, parts are not available for our traps". Unfortunately, I will be buying any future traps from your competitor.
I've had this out for about a month- 2-3 x's the door was triggered but no critter. Seems to trigger with wind. I am repurchasing a different manufacturer , since the squirrel(s) have not been stopped destroying and digging under my foundation. I would NOT recommend this particular live trap.
This 1026 trap is worthless. Trip plate mechanism does not work at all (a basic design flaw, not just a one-off manufacturing problem). Don't waste your money. I bought this as a replacement for its predecessor which worked beautifully for 5 years--so I've had plenty of experience with these traps. Can't believe Havahart is selling such poorly designed product, And for what it's worth, their "customer service" only offers a replacement, not a refund. Seriously, do not buy.
What a P.O.C. !
Returning to Home Depot pronto !
The black plastic keeper came off top of trigger rod, trigger rod lower curved track wouldn’t hold, Trip plate wouldn’t spring, instructions inadequate..
An utter wasted trip to the store... Forget it !!
Zero star rating
Seems like a nice design but…three nights in a row, something has been in it, eaten a lot of bait, tripped the door and was not in the trap. The only explanation is the animal keeps escaping. But somehow the trap is tripped and shut and locked but no animal is inside.
We have been overrun with chipmunks for years and the Havahart traps have proven effective.

We are overrun with chipmunks. We've successfully used Model 1025 for many years and caught around 130 or more. We just bought the 1026 to help cover front- and back-yard chipmunks. From Day 1, the 1026 has performed flawlessly. Some have escaped the 1025 before the doors closed, but not the new 1026. However, out of the box, the trigger rod would rub against the cage. My pliers took care of that. Also, the door lock does not slide all the way into the notch on the door, but it's still effective. We've inadvertently caught squirrels, doves, wrens, and other birds in the 1025 but no harm done. We are extremely pleased with Havahart traps.
The trap is well designed and works well. However it came with the door assembled incorrectly. I had to take it apart and fix it because it wouldn’t close correctly. I would have gave 5 stars if I didn’t have to fix it from the factory. Works good now.
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We're sorry to hear that the door was not closing properly upon receipt. These comments and concerns have been shared with our Product Managers.

Can not get the door to open up all the way. It opens about half way.
We're sorry to hear that this is happening. If the door is not fully opening, we recommend returning the trap to the retailer for either a refund or exchange.
Do you sell parts for this? Specifically the separate rod on the outside that connects the trap door to the lever on the plate.

How do you set up he 1026 trap
Question by: Sandra mueller on Apr 8, 2024, 1:05 PM
Please follow the steps below to set this trap -
1. Turn the Door Lock to the open position.
2. Holding the door open, place the bait behind the Trip Plate.
3. Remove the Trigger Rod from the top of the trap. Attach the plastic end to the Trigger Rod Connection.
4. Press down on the assembled Trigger Rod. Meanwhile, lift the Trip Plate Trigger and gently position the flat end of the Trigger Rod under the Trip Plate Trigger so the door is held open and the Trip Plate is level.
5. Close the Door Lock by resting it on top of the door.

If traps are damaged, it is our recommendation that the trap be replaced so it does not unintentionally injure future catches. Images are available on our website.
