Plastic When, not if it will break.

The plastic part that holds the trip arm to the drop door arm broke, rendering the trap useless. Havahart does not supply replacement parts, this was apparently was one-off project "let China design and make this POS". F-ing embarrassing for a US company that's been around since 1942, what would the founders think of this quality and post purchase lack of support? Do Better

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience with the trap. The trip arm connector is designed to withstand normal operation, and we understand how frustrating it is when a component breaks and prevents the trap from functioning. To help extend the life of the mechanism, we recommend checking that the trap is placed on a flat, stable surface and ensuring the door and trigger assembly move freely without obstruction before each use. We value your comments regarding product durability and replacement part availability and will share them with our product team for review.
Bad design. Get model model 1078 instead.

How many bad reviews are needed to convince you that this trap (model 1026) is a bad design? At least, you are honest not to hide them, so I believe improvement is possible. I love my model 1078 (different design) and caught squirrels with it. I can also recommend the larger Squirrelinator (made by Rugged Ranch) if one wants to catch multiple squirrels at a time. While I was able to figure out how to attach 1026 trigger rod so it does not come off (push the rod into the plastic coupling all the way in, until two barely visible plastic teeth in the coupling end up "hugging" the rod from above), the trigger mechanism is still flawed. It is either not sensitive enough to cause the door to close or, if you bend the rod a little, can become hyper-sensitive, so when squirrels bump the trap before entering it, the trap will close from vibration. I bought this model at Home Depot and returned it couple of days later.

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that the Havahart® Small 1-Door Live Animal Trap did not meet your expectations. The trigger mechanism is designed to balance sensitivity and reliability, but proper trigger rod placement is important for consistent operation. The trigger rod should be fully seated in the trigger assembly and the trap should be placed on a flat, stable surface to help prevent vibration from prematurely activating the door. Bait should be positioned beyond the trigger plate to encourage the animal to fully enter the trap before activation. We appreciate you sharing your detailed observations, as customer feedback helps us evaluate and improve our products.
Trigger arm = same issue; ...

Trigger arm = same issue; the trigger arm will not completely engage into the plastic connector. It appears that the receiver is undersized or not molded to the correct profile v. the trigger arm diameter. SO, it constantly comes loose and falls off in the grass. It falls off in the grass because the door is misaligned and has to be shaken to open. S0, I don't notice and lose the trigger rod. Your engineering, production and QA folks need to execute a good 5 why and A3 analysis. Also - kudo's for replacing the defective trap but ....... you dont want it returned for analysis ?????????? And there are no replacement parts ????

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your detailed observations and are sorry to hear that you experienced the same issue with the replacement trap. The trigger arm should fit securely into the plastic connector and remain engaged during normal operation. Likewise, the door should move freely and align properly without requiring excessive shaking to open. If the door is not operating smoothly, it can affect trap performance and may contribute to components becoming disengaged. We understand your frustration regarding the lack of replacement parts and your concern about not being asked to return the trap for further evaluation. Feedback such as yours is valuable, and we will share your comments with our product team for review as we continuously work to improve our products and customer experience. Thank you for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback.
I wanted to like this. - Trigger arm fell off - lost - no replacement

I wanted to like this. And everything is straight forward. I caught and released one chipmunk - and then I realized, the trigger arm fell off - EVEN THOUGH I made sure when I assembled it that it was secure. Look, I could give a 5 star on this, but like other have pointed out, there are no replacement parts. So, now I have a 35$ waste of money! Have a Hart, make this part available for a reasonable price.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating it is when a trap works initially but then becomes unusable due to a missing component. The trigger arm should remain securely attached during normal use, so we're sorry to hear that it fell off after only one catch despite your careful assembly. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We understand your concern regarding the availability of replacement parts and can appreciate why this would be disappointing, especially after the trap successfully caught an animal. Your comments regarding replacement part availability will be shared with our product team as we continue to evaluate opportunities for product improvements and customer support options. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback.

Very good product. I use it for Chipmunks. If there's a problem losing the trigger rod, just put a zip tie on it. No problem. This trap is probably too small for Grey Squirrels.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the trap didn’t meet your expectations. These traps are designed to be sensitive to ensure a quick trigger, but we understand that this can sometimes make them feel too easy to trip or a bit challenging to set. For squirrels, it can help to place the trap along a known travel path and use bait positioned toward the back of the trap so they fully enter before triggering it. We appreciate you sharing your experience and will pass your comments along to our product team for review.

Do not buy model 1026. The trigger arm falls off every time and gets lost easy. When you call customer serving of course you can’t understand represent. I wanted to buy replacement triggers for all traps that I have that don’t work . He informed me that replacement piece isn’t offered as a part to buy . So I’m out of luck . He then told me I could order another trap and he would give me a whopping 15% off lol Why would I buy a trap that won’t work after trigger bar will Eventually not work .

We’re really sorry to hear about your experience. That sounds frustrating, especially when the trap isn’t functioning reliably. Your feedback about the part coming loose and the difficulty replacing it is important, and we’re sharing it with our product team as we evaluate both design durability and the availability of replacement components. We also regret that your customer service experience didn’t meet expectations. Clear communication and helpful solutions are something we take seriously, and your comments highlight where we need to improve. Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback. It helps guide improvements to both our products and support experience.
Same issue as everyone here.

Same issue as everyone here. The terrible removable trigger rod (which can't be purchased on its own if it's lost or broken) with the plastic piece is an unforgivably bad design, which makes me wonder if this product is a shameless money grab. I buy and keep track of tools for a maintenance department. Multiple people use everything in my warehouse. Of course, the first time this trap was checked out and used, the arm was lost. I can't blame my techs for it. No one who has ever used one of these types of traps expects them to have flimsy parts that fall off. This would be like making an electric drill with a crappy, detachable trigger that constantly falls off, and not even having the decency to sell a replacement crappy trigger, and expecting your customers to buy a new drill every time. HAVAHART, FIX THIS FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the trigger rod, and we appreciate you taking the time to share this detailed feedback. We understand how important durable and reliable equipment is, especially in a shared-use environment like yours. We have learned that in many cases where the trigger rod becomes loose or falls off, it may not have been fully secured into the plastic component during setup. Ensuring it is firmly pushed into place can help improve stability during use. Your feedback regarding part availability is valuable, and we will be sure to share it with our product team.

I agree with most of the reviews below although I wish I would’ve read them prior to approaching seeing this from Home hardware. I have a weasel that’s coming into my chicken coop so it’s critical that this works. Not only is the set up take about 10 times in order to just get the two metal pieces just slightly touch so that the plate can be activated. I go in to the Coop every morning and the bait’s been consumed or the door has been half closed and the Animal is still able to get out of the trap. Doesn’t matter where you place it on what surface all the points that the person replying back or AI is replying back to our comments it doesn’t work. I highly recommend purchasing a high-quality product as soon as you see plastic run as soon as you see moveable parts that come completely detached from the trap itself. Do not purchase it that metal bar I’ve lost in the dirt so many times had to bring out magnets in order to find it

Thanks for your detailed feedback. We’re really sorry to hear about your experience, especially given how important it is to protect your chickens. The trap should set securely and maintain proper sensitivity without requiring repeated adjustments, and the door should fully close and hold once triggered. What you’re describing, bait being taken without a full trigger, the door partially closing, and components coming loose, is not expected performance. We understand how frustrating it must be to deal with inconsistent triggering and loose parts, particularly in a situation where reliability is critical. Your comments about the setup difficulty and detachable components are valuable, and we’ll be sharing this directly with our product team for further review.

Do you sell parts for this? Specifically the separate rod on the outside that connects the trap door to the lever on the plate.

Why aren’t there replacement parts. Doesn’t seem right to have to buy a new trap because you lost one part. I need a trigger rod for small 1door trap. Thanks.

Could you tell me how the hinged door is going inside?, it has a spring that I don't know how it goes, a chipmunk disassembled it and I need to reassemble it, thank you very much!!!! If you have an image, it would be better, thank you very much!! i´m from Mexico.
Question by: Fernando Campos Soto on Oct 20, 2024, 7:32 PM
If traps are damaged, it is our recommendation that the trap be replaced so it does not unintentionally injure future catches. Images are available on our website.
