One of our most innovative products, Havahart has created a completely
portable and wireless repellent designed specifically for deer and guaranteed to work!
Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent uses a unique, patented technology that gives deer a harmless, static shock to condition them to avoid your yard and leave your landscape intact.
No need for unsightly and expensive fencing solutions that compromise your landscape, Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent works just like a wireless electronic fence, providing an unobtrusive, silent solution to destructive deer! Economical, one package contains 3 posts, covering up to 1,200 sq. ft. and lasting season after season. The Electronic Deer Repellent is also a waterproof, year-round solution, making it ideal for protecting your property even in the harsh winter.
How It Works:
Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent works by taking advantage of the deer’s heightened sensitivity to smell by attracting them to the individual posts with sweet acorn scented lure and a red top which mimics an irresistible azalea. When the curious deer contact the post, the Electronic Deer Repellent delivers a mild shock startling the deer and training the animal to avoid your property. Proper placement is key -- posts should be positioned around deer entries, paths, and around plants they like.
Invented by a veterinarian, the electronic deer repellent creates a psychological barrier that manipulates instinctual behaviors to keep deer off your property, without the use of harmful chemicals. As a result, the Electronic Deer Repellent is a natural solution that is safe for deer, pets and your family.
After deer have been conditioned to avoid certain areas of your property, the units can be moved to protect newly emerging plants or leave them in their current position to ward off new deer that may come into your area. And because the batteries last up to 1 year, the product is virtually maintenance free. Just reapply the powerful acorn scented lure weekly.
Additionally, at the inset of it’s use, it’s important to use deterrent sprays to help protect your property during the training period.
Easy To Setup, Easy To Use:
The Electronic Deer Repellent is portable, effective and easy to use.
Step 1: Insert cotton ball into lure holder and place a few drops of the acorn scented lure at each end of holder. Ensure that the inner pair of wires (electrodes) are not contacting the outside pair of wires. (This will create a dead short and not allow the units to charge). If you find them touching; gently adjust them away from each other until there is a small gap between them in all areas.
Step 2:Install 2 AA batteries (Caution: unit is now
Step 3:Using the foot tab, press the stake into the ground at the desired location – ensure the foot tab is flush.
How Many Posts Are Needed?
The number of posts required varies by:
The amount of vegetation in your yard that deer like
The number or density of deer in your area
The size of the area you want to protect
The number of deer paths into your yard
(One package contains 3 posts covering up to 1,200 sq. ft.). Generally, you want 1 post between 5 and 20 feet apart depending on the above variables.
Where to Place Posts:
Before positioning posts, carefully note all existing damage and determine if it is indeed deer and not rabbits damaging your plants. Hint: Rabbits don’t leave tracks and only eat things close to the ground.
First, place posts on the perimeter of your property (on deer trails) – this will intercept deer on their way into your property.
Additionally, position posts in interior areas where you see deer damage and where the deer is most likely to find it. For example:
On and around deer paths and entries into your yard
In and around plants that deer like and you wish to protect
Any other place where tracks or droppings are observed
Deployment & Training Your Deer:
When setting up your posts, the goal is to place them in an area where you have the highest chance of interaction so that you can begin the training process. The more posts you deploy, the higher your odds and opportunity for deer to interact with the post – therefore, the quicker your training period. Once interaction occurs, the trained deer will typically stay approx 30ft. from a post.
In the spring, the established deer groups disperse and doe will often chase away their fawns. In the fall, the hunts will further scramble deer populations. It is critical during these times that you have all your posts placed to train new deer that may settle into your area. For best results, put the Electronic Deer Repellent posts out before planting.
Most homeowners have reported that they see quick & immediate results, however if you have a large property and deer population you may need to give the system some time to train all deer. Untrained deer may browse some of your plants until finding a post during the training period. This can be kept to a minimum by using more posts and proper placement. Do not stop using deer repellent sprays or fencing until all deer are trained.
As the recognized brand leader in nuisance animal control, Havahart® iscommitted to making customer satisfaction our number one priority. A Note on Safety:
The post is both safe for the target animal and for accidental contact. The current produced by this device has a very low amperage and a duration of only a few milliseconds. The voltage range for this product is approx. 300 volts. Additionally, the device recharges itself slowly so there is no possibility of continuous shock. Finally, the lure holder, which also holds the electrodes, is colored red – this serves to attract deer but also give awareness to the shock area.

Havahart® Electronic Deer Repellent - Technology
Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent acts like a baited electric fence ... but it works completely wireless! Each of the 3 independent posts contains a charging circuit, stainless steel electrodes, a lure holder with lure.
Each post is powered by 2 AA batteries which last for up to 1 year. After assembly and proper placement, the lure works to attract deer to the post. When the deer makes contact with the Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent, it receives a quick, humane, but startling shock and will immediately flee.
After one contact, the deer will now avoid the area around the post (approx. 30ft. from all sides) as it associates it with the discomfort of the shock.

Havahart Electronic Deer Repellent FAQs
Q: How does Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent work?
A: Using a sweet scented deer lure, the electronic posts attract deer in the short-range – when the deer touches the post, they are shocked on the nose. In this way, it works by taking advantage of the normal, instinctual behavior of deer:
Deer have an excellent sense of smell that rely on to find food and alert them to predators so they naturally are drawn to the post
Deer browse and investigate with their nose, an area which is not insulted by fur and can be shocked
Deer are herd animals, if one is startled and afraid to return to an area, others will be reluctant to approach the protected area as well
Deer are skittish, have good memories and are creatures of habit, therefore they will remember and learn to avoid an area they associate with discomfort
Q:How many Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent do I need and how far apart should I place them?
A: The number of posts needed varies depending on your size of area to protect, density of deer populations, etc. The more pressure and more things in your yard that deer like, the more posts you would need. Generally, you want 1 post between 5 and 20 feet apart.
Q: How do I maintain the Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent posts?
A: Each unit has two AA batteries which should be changed about once a year. The scent lure lasts for about 1 week and should be reapplied after rainfall. Additionally, keep posts clear of overgrown vegetation.
Q: Can I use Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent in rain and snow?
A: Rain, snow and ice could discharge the post. The posts will automatically recharge when they become a bit drier. Fortunately, deer are less active during bad weather and the deer that have been trained and repelled will still be repelled from the area where the devices are deployed.
Q: Where can I buy more attractant?
A: Havahart’s Electronic Deer Repellent comes with a 4oz bottle of Pete Rickard's® Original Indian Buck Lure – Pete has had the best scents in the business for over 60 years and pioneered the business of animal lures for hunting purposes. One bottle of Pete’s acorn scent can last for years. A great benefit to our product is that it can be used with any brand deer lure. And for best results, you can change your lure to match the food source or scent that is most appealing to your deer population – whether it be apple, sweet corn, scorn, etc. To order more visit Pete’s website @ peterickard.com or use the order form included in the box.
Q: I don’t know if my Electronic Deer Repellent is working?
A: Although proven effective in most situations, in specific cases the Havahart Electronic Deer Repellent alone may not fully control your deer problem. Additionally, correct deployment and understand how the system works is a key piece to ensure success. Here are some common missteps or misunderstandings of how the system works:
Not using enough posts
Incorrect positioning of posts – must be used on perimeter or interior of property
Expecting immediate results – deer typically have established feeding areas so they may ignore posts at first
Maintenance – Attractant must be replace weekly, posts must be free from vegetation or debris, ice, or snow, and posts should be kept upright.
New damage – new damage could be caused by another nuisance animal such as rabbits. Or existing damage may be mistaken for new damage.
This is a set of three posts that gives a gentle shock to animals. Setup took about 20 minutes and the weekly deer lure is easy to replace.
We have roses in the flower beds in Northeast Florida. Unfortunately, deer love to eat the roses. After a total of 10 weeks, this product is still staying strong. Our roses are unfettered by the deer. Our neighbors down the street don't have as much luck, and they've tried everything. Now, they want to buy this product, also.
If you have a problem with wildlife, give this product a try. It works with the deer who, before, raided our flower beds.
Environmentally safe, won't hurt deer, and easy to set up June 12, 2012

I'm using Havahart 5250 Electronic Deer Repellent to keep deer from eating the tasty veggies in my garden. Set up is easy -- have yet to see them in action but I will add notes as the season unfolds. Check out my short video review for details.
Edit: July 15 -- Looks like these do work. We have a large garden and the veggies in the three corners where I had these in place are fine -- but last night the area where I don't have one got munched -- wiped out. Looks like I'm ordering another set to fully protect the entire garden.
