Review Ratemore innovation and testing needed
I bought a model 1085 to trap a raccoon about tree years ago. The trap set in my attic until last week, when an armadillo needed to be trapped. Everything looked good until the next morning. The trap appeared to have been attacked by Godzilla. The trap door was severely bent and the door arm was bent almost in two. After spend- ing 2 hours repairing the trap, I noticed that the door had not seated itself properly. I also mounted 2 narrow steel bars on the trap door to seat the door more quickly and securely. Now the trap can function properly.Response From Havahart®Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

Review RateGood with a limitation
I like this model a lot more than others as it is easy to open with the handle/wire cable. We have lost a few raccoons (as mentioned in other reviews) but not all that often. What is unfortunate is that the cable used to open the door rusted enough so that it broke. How much more would it cost to use a quality stainless steel cable?Response From Havahart®Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative

Review Rateworks with adjustments
I bought this trap to capture and relocate a 25-30 lb. raccoon. Raccoons are very smart so he was able to reach in and eat the food without entering the trap. I had to box the end of the trap so the raccoon could not reach the food without entering the trap. Once inside the trap he was able to reach under the trap door. I had to secure the trap door closed so he would not be able to push it open during transport. I do not think the spring on the trap door is strong enough to hold the door closed once the animal is inside. Getting the door secured closed is tricky once the animal is inside because it can reach through the cage and hurt your hand.Response From Havahart®Patty : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for providing this valuable feedback, Bobbi. We are glad you were able to relocate the raccoon. For the safety of both the trap owner and the animal, we recommend wearing gloves and covering the trap with a blanket or cloth. If the animal seems especially agitated or scared, approach the trap slowly while holding a blanket in front of you to help keep it calm.

Review RateLarge live trap
The easy set is a nice feature, you honestly can't make a mistake with it. The end of the cage that has the trigger plate on, is made just ok. I took some heavy gauge tie wraps and secured the cage a bit better. They have a metal type fastener that aren't too rigid, that hold the bottom and side cage together. Need some spot welds to really makes this a durable cage. It does work, just have to see for how long.
Review RateUp Side and Down SideOn the Up side, you will never find a trap that is easier to set than this one and I have caught quite a few possums with them ( I have 2 of them). On the Down side, it must be on very level ground or it will trip itself. This limits the areas where you can set it and that is why I give it 3 stars out of 5.
