Review RateLow success rate ...
I've used this trap for just under three (3) years, and the success rate is less than 10%, There a couple of reasons for this … 1) Some squirrels are able to 'nose' their way out of trap once tripped by pushing open the door. I've seen it happen. 2) With part of the tripping mechanism outside of the trap, animals that crawl around the outside of trap can trip it. I've seen it happen. Overall, a poorly designed trap.Response From Havahart®Jules : Consumer Relations Representative
Thank you for taking the time to share your review! We have passed your comments along to our Product Managers. If the squirrels you're trying to catch are strong enough to "nose" their way out of the door, then we recommend using a medium trap, such as the Havahart® Medium 1-Door Easy Set™ Trap (1084).
In order to keep the trap from being tripped accidentally, try placing the trap along a fence or wall with the outside tripping mechanisms close to it. This will help prevent animals from running against that side of the trap. Review RateNot worth it.
I bought two of these to catch chipmunks. I must have smart chipmunks because the bait is always gone, and either the trap did not trigger, or somehow it is closed with nothing in the trap.Response From Havahart®Patty : Consumer Relations Representative

The trap should trigger easily by poking the trip plate with a pencil or stick. Mice or other smaller animals could get to the bait & leave. We look forward to helping get those chipmunks caught.
Review Ratecan not catch a chipmunk because the chipmunk is n
what ever i do the chipmunk will not snap the trap. watched them go in and eat the bait and leave as if to say thanks for the food.Response From Havahart®Lauren : Consumer Relations Representative
If an animal is able to access the bait in a trap without engaging the trip plate, it will not trigger. To prevent this type of bait theft, we recommend tying the bait to the trap or digging a small hole under the trap and placing the bait inside. This will cause the animal to go further into the trap and work harder to access the bait, increasing the chances of a successful catch.

Just watched a chipmunk go into my trap, eat all the birdseed, go across the "plate" twice and the trap never triggered? What now?Response From Havahart®Kelly : Consumer Relations Representative
To increase the sensitivity of the trap, we recommend adding something small onto the trigger plate such as a washer or a pebble. Tying the bait from the roof of the trap above the trigger plate or burying the bait under the trap also works well to ensure that the chipmunk has to maneuver on the trigger plate, increasing the chances of a catch.
