Very Poor Quality By Jeff

Purchased a Havahart 1045 recommended for armadillos in early February. Since then armadillos have defeated the trap by bending the doors/clips to escape on at least 4 occasions. Last night the armadillo bent both side supports on one door to almost 90 degrees. I get that the longer the animal is trapped, the more aggressive they will be, but who is going to spend all night watching a trap?!! I spoke to Customer Service and received the same response about letting the product managers know of the problem and offer to replace under warranty. Why bother replacing with the same poorly made product?!! "Havahart" for your customers and do something to fix the problem.

Armadillo busts out By Kris

I own2 Havahart 1045’s and in 10 years have caught about 150 possum and about 15 armadillos, a few feral cats and a few raccoons. In the last 2 months an armadillo has managed to but out 4x between the 2 traps and bent and damaged both. Figuring they were compromised, I bought another 1045 about 10 days ago. I check every morning plus I have a trail camera to monitor. Last night Dec16 at 1126 pm I caught either THE Armadillo or an armadillo. It busted out at 1137pm, broke the weld on the door and bent the top of the entrance. I planned to take it back to Academy and order a 1050 through Havahart but now after reading these bad ‘Armadillo’ reviews, I think I won’t. Hey Havahart, please don’t send the nonsense that I should check the trap more. It took this one 11 minutes to but out. I have pictures with date/Times Thankyou

not heavy duty as told By sgb

I bought two of the model 1050 based on what havahart sayed would trap armadillos and was heavy duty,they wont hold an armadillo at all.of course they say you should check the trap often as an excuse.i didn't plan on watching a trap all the time.they shouldn't advertise wont they wont do.and when you call they try to sell you a wal mart card what customer service never again with this company

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. Our traps are made from high tensile galvanized steel. This trap has been tested to catch armadillos.

Releasing an animal as soon as possible is extremely important when trapping a live animal. A trapped animal can quickly become panicked when left in a trap for an extended period of time away from food, water, shelter, or their young.

Very Poor product fro Havahart and very poor services from Academy. By Frank

I bought a 2 doors x-large Havahart traps at Academy 40 days ago. The trap caught an armadillo but he was able to go right under the door, he escaped and the trap broke. I took the trap back and because it was used they would not exchange it. This is the last time I will shop at Academy and the last time I will buy anything from Havahart

We are very sorry to hear about this experience and are happy to help.  To prevent damage to traps or injury to an animal, we recommend checking the traps often and relocating as soon as possible.  Once an animal has been caught, placing a blanket or tarp over the trap can keep it calmer until it is released.

When trapping an animal, it is important that they are not left inside the trap for an extended period of time. Armadillos are known to attempt to escape after some time. In many cases they will dig into the bottom of the trap or ram into the trap walls. To help prevent an animal from panicking while trapped, we recommend frequently checking the traps so the animal can be immediately released. Placing a burlap sac or sheet over the trap can also create a more den-like feeling to the trap, keeping the animal calmer.
