TERRIBLE, FALSE ADVERTISING By SUSAN H

OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD IDEA THAT i PURCHASED 24 OF THESE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, THEY DID NOTHING TO REPEL DEER AND I AM JUST OUT THE MONEY.

For best results, placing the units around deer entries, paths, and around plants they are most likely to encounter will force deer interaction with the unit. After deer have been conditioned to avoid certain areas of your property, we recommend moving the units around occasionally.

Non functional By Mwas

I installed them about 12 days ago and the deer come, sniff, and walk away..... I "tested" each unit with my finger and of the 9 installed, only 2 provided a "shock". I changed out batteries and re tested with same non shock event. Very unhappy.

After assembling the units, it will take approximately 45 minutes for the spikes to fully charge. How long were the units charged before they were tested? We recommend visually inspecting the electrode wires to make sure the inside pair are not contacting the outside pair of wires. If they are touching, gently adjust them away from each other until there is a small gap between them in all areas.

Didn't work. By JB

Unfortunately, these did nothing to scare away the deer at our house. I bought six, tested them regularly, moved them around, used them in conjunction with fishing line and various spray repellent--all to no avail. The deer were not scared. We had to the install a fence.

wont buy again By none

plastic cracks,dint work after one season,cant get it to shock anymore,disappointed,also wont work after it rains.

Havahart dud By Nicholas

We have tried everything to keep the deer away. I am disappointed with reports concerning the poor design and ineffectiveness of the Havahart device. "Of the 9 electronic deer repellents I purchased, only 1 was working." "The doe backed up about 8 feet, walked around the stake and went into the orchard and started nibbling on the leaves of the trees." "Did not anticipate that rain will discharge battery fast. Our deer were not really attracted by the scent of lure." "It shocked one deer one time which I believe was an accident because the deer were not attracted to the acorn scent. After checking all of the units about 10 days later none of them would work. Very disappointing." "Half did not develop a charge and the only way to test them is touching the loop and get shocked if it is charged and nothing if not functional. Switched batteries, with no positive results in most cases. Product needs an external indicator of charge - perhaps an LED for low voltage draw illuminated when full charge is reached." Havahart responses to these posts were not encouraging.

Not worth the $300 for the 3 sets By howie

Possible a good idea, but poor design does not allow it to be effective. Of the 9 electronic deer repellents I purchased, only 1 was working. Because of poor design and/or material, the 2 halves could not be joined together. After a couple of months, the plastic end of the top half end could be joined with the bottom half because the plastic end cracked and pieces broke off. This was not because deer abuse, but the plastic would not hold up in the outside elements. Also I found it hard to check for electric current with my ohm meter.

Does what it is suppose to do - shock, not prevent grazing. By Judy

I purchased these to use with my business. In order to test them I put them around a small orchard approximately 15 feet apart. I photographed a doe approach the stake, sniff it and get shocked! It works that way. The doe backed up about 8 feet, walked around the stake and went into the orchard and started nibbling on the leaves of the trees. I have been told the product does what it is suppose to do - shock the deer. This product would probably be effective if you stake one at each plant that you don't want deer to eat if it is small enough - like perennials.

Placement of the stakes is key. We recommend positioning them around deer entries, paths, and around plants they are most likely to encounter. The goal is to force deer interaction with the unit. This will condition the deer to avoid certain areas of your property. Then the units can be moved to protect newly emerging plants or to protect new entryways.


The number of units needed will depend on the amount of vegetation to be protected, the deer population, the location of the area (suburban or rural) and the number of deer paths leading to the area.

Great idea, poor execution By Bob in HSV

I purchased 6 of the deer repellent stakes to try to save some of my plants from deer herds in our area. Initially thought that they were just what I was looking for. Put 3 together and placed them around plants in front of house. We had a heavy rain and I wanted to replace attracting scent cotton. When I picked the first one out of the ground, the battery side shaft broke out in the side. The plastic is extremely brittle. It broke out the retaining lugs and the batteries fell out. One other one did the same thing. I used a clear tape to bind them back together so I could use then. I have three others that I will modify with metal rings to reinforce the very brittle plastic. I really like the products that I bought and hate to write a miserable review. I know that I am not the first to have this problem.

did not work very well By G and D

It shocked one deer one time which I believe was an accident because the deer were not attracted to the acorn scent. After checking all of the units about 10 days later none of them would work. Very disappointing.
