Sorry, would not purchase again By Pugwug

Nice looking feeder, unfortunately leaks. Been using hummingbird feeders for over 10 yrs, never had them leak like this unit & I have 2 of them :(

The time taken to provide this feedback is appreciated! Where are the feeders hung? We recommend keeping them out of the direct sunlight (liquid will expand when it turns warm). We also recommend quickly inverting the feeders upright after filling to create a vacuum seal.

Product Improvements Not Working Out By Marty

The new design and apparent manufacturing changes cause problems. The manufacturing seams catch mold, the new bee guards do the same. There are thin bits of plastic in bad places, even in the bee guards, in some cases actually restricting fluid flow. I have tried everything to clean them, even resorting to the dishwasher. The new version of the plastic body seems to attract black mold to form which sticks to the plastic and is very difficult to impossible to remove because it requires physical friction in places where you really can't get to it. Water pressure just doesn't cut it. The idea of bee guards you can open to clean is good but in practice there are a lot of manufacturing imperfections and nooks and crannies for the mold to form and hide. I clean these every time I fill them but they still managed to develop black mold. In addition as others have said these leak. As a result they attract bees, wasps, ants, and larger birds. Keeping them out of sunlight as you suggest also makes them less visible. That was not a problem with the previous versions of the narrow bottle neck feeders. I do not know if this mold problem is also the reason the birds do not seem to like these feeders, even though they look almost the same. My old style Perky Pet feeders worked well. However this is the second year I have both had trouble cleaning the new ones and had a poor turnout of customers. It's really a shame because I like the convenience of the wide mouth and the bee moat. But the manufacturing and design are not up to standards.

Dear Marty,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback! We appreciate the information and have shared these comments with our Product Manager.

When cleaning the feeder and all the accessories, we recommend using warm soapy water and allowing time for the parts to soak. This will help clean all the nooks and crannies. Also, a handful of uncooked rice can be used. Simply fill the feeder with one part vinegar to four parts water, add the rice, shake vigorously and then rinse thoroughly. We recommend cleaning at least twice a week, more often in warmer climates/months.

Terrible waste of money By MissouriDebbie

It leaks. It has nothing to do with the placement of the feeders. Sun or shade, they start to leak right after they are hung. I suggest you test these out in the real world and not in your design lab. Also, you suggested that I clean out my feeders. I clean my feeders every time that I refill them. The old style worked much better even though they were harder to clean. I purchased a Pennington feeder which is not only easy to clean but it doesn’t leak, EVER!

Leaking new model By Gerry

I have spent the time and money to do your designing for you. Your new model leaks. I purchased 4 of them. They all leak and it has nothing to do with the bottle being tight or sun or wind or any of the other items you mention. It has to do with the design of the angle for the flowers. You have changed that and it is just enough to be right at the edge of leaking and any movement (like a hummer perching) will start the leak. I have gone back to my old model of yours. You cannot make it leak. Please fix this.

Leaks, leaks, leaks By MissouriDebbie

I said this before and I’ll say it again. This is a waste of money. The nectar dribbles out at a pretty steady pace. I have two of these but sadly they are in a shoebox and out of use. I still have and use several of the older model which I love but can no longer find anywhere to purchase the replacement part for the nectar chamber. I’m afraid this will be their last season of use unless I can find the part somewhere.

Where are the feeders placed? It is important to keep them out of the direct sunlight as liquid expands when it gets warmer. We recommend cleaning the feeders and also making sure the base and bottle are assembled tightly.

Leaks due to breeze or wind By Steve

Read all the reviews and agree that this feeder does leak. It's the design of the feed tubes. Any side to side movement of the feeder causes liquid to leak out of the flower port. It doesn't happen when stationary and perfectly level, but the slightest tilt produces leakage. Even a slight breeze will cause leakage. I'm moving the flowers out from the base a little at a time to see if it stops the leakage without preventing birds from access to liquid.

To help keep this from occurring, we recommend quickly inverting the feeder upright after filling. The base and the bottle should be assembled tightly to form a vacuum seal.

My choice is glass By Hatch

Over the years we've used the glass, and we've used the plastic, my choice is always the glass. Additionally, the Perky Pet WEB page is quick and easy when replacing or adding accessories.

Great for my area By Abanic

These feeders are GREAT for the Ruby-Throated and Black-Chinned Hummers we get around my home. They do dribble a little if you’re not careful, and the bee-guards are not 100% effective, but I highly recommend these for anyone in the Central Texas area.

Going down. By Captain 47

Like everyone else mine leaks. I have found some relief by using Teflon tape on the neck is the bottle. Still isn’t great but slows the leakage. The only reason I’m using three of them now is the perch. I do like to see them sitting there

We apologize for this experience and appreciate the time taken to share this feedback.

Making sure the feeder is protected from the wind and sun will help prevent leaks. We also recommend disassembling the feeder and then re-assembling it and quickly inverting the feeder upright after filling.

A leaky leaker that leaks By Sumguy

It leaks and leaks, regardless of how "tightly" it's secured. I even took it apart and put a small rubber washer under the central screw to try to stop the leaking. No luck. Also it's not kept in direct sunlight. The PerkyPet representatives have been posting this response: "When assembled with the bottle and base tightly secured, the hummingbird feeder should not leak." I think we all agree it “should not leak” - so fix it !!
