Safe for You and the Animal

For You: A solid door and handle guard protect you from contact with a trapped animal, and the carrying handle allows you to hold the trap away from your body while an animal is inside.

For the Animal: A strong door lock keeps the animal safely in the trap, while smooth, rolled internal edges prevent injuries to animals as they are being transported or as they struggle to escape.

Havahart® Traps are Built to Last

Havahart® builds the strongest, most durable traps with premium materials, intended to endure harsh weather and unpredictable animal behavior. Traps are constructed of industrial-strength, one-piece wire mesh, which is galvanized for maximum resistance to rust and corrosion. A solid door and steel reinforcements add to the durability of the trap, ensuring an even longer trap life.

Not Recommended for Full-Size Adult Armadillos By Ralph

I purchased this specific-size cage to capture Raccoons and Armadillos that destroy my wife's vegetable garden. We've trapped several adult Raccoons and a couple of mid-sized Armadillos since then. However, yesterday, we managed to trapped a huge Armadillo and when we checked on it after 30 minutes, it managed to break the door hinge off and escape! So, now, we have a Havahart cage that has a broken trap door (useless) and this one adult Armadillo still on the loose around our vegetable garden.

We apologize for this experience. Once an animal is trapped, we recommend relocating the animal and releasing it as quickly as possible. Armadillos in particular are known to try to escape after some time, digging into the bottom of the trap or running into the trap walls..

Works great By Dirt worshipper

I have caught opossums, raccoons, and now gophers with this trap. Works great. I did have a raccoon get out the back end once, but I am pretty sure I didn't close it properly. The only drawback is that it can be a little bit of a pain opening the back door to release the animal. I have used it for years and it has held up fine, very durable.

Excellent product By Canoehead
This is exactly what I needed, arrived quickly, and easy to store. I needed time with the instructions to set it up, but if you follow them, it does work. Looks durable enough to be used for years.

Weak spring, too much play in the lock By Alaska Charlie
I like the storage convenience of the folding design. In testing the trap out, I noticed that the spring was not quite strong enough to shut the door as quickly and vigorously as I would like. I successfully trapped an animal last night, but as I was about to recover the trap, the animal was able to push hard enough against the door that it was able to squeeze out underneath the door. It looked to me that there was just enough play between the door and the locking mechanism to provide a little clearance at the bottom. An inward closing door - one hinged at the top, but closing from inside the trap - would reverse this geometry such that an animal pushing on the door from the inside would be acting to close the door even more tightly, thus preventing an escape. For smaller, less powerful animals, the existing design is fine.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback about the design of the trap. If the animal is not able to be relocated soon after it is trapped we would recommend covering the trap with a blanket or some brush to help keep it calm.

The suggestions have been shared with with our Product Managers. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-HAVAHART (1-855-542-8242) for additional assistance.

Nailed him in under one week By BKRMD
I ordered the large trap because I had a large groundhog that was tearing up my garden. The trap arrived the next day. I caught a raccoon in two days and got the groundhog on the sixth day. I successfully relocated him to a remote wooded area. My only complaint is that the instructions were unclear on how to engage the trip rod into the latch mechanism. I ended opening up the "eye" on the trip rod and threading it into the "eye" on the catch. By the way, I caught him with canteloupe. He had already eaten most of the butternut squash in my garden so I thought he might be tempted by something new!

Q.Hi!! I am interested in this Large 1 Door Collapsible Trap (Item #1089). Could you please tell me how much does it weight? (The weight of the shipped package is what I’m looking for). Thanks!! Rodrigo

The trap and box weigh approximately 10.3 pounds.

Q.Are squirrels always going to be stealing my bait? Or can I capture squirrels well too?

This trap is best used for armadillos, cats, groundhogs, muskrats, opossums, and raccoons.  Attaching the bait to the trap, such as in a nylon bag, can prevent other smaller animals from stealing the bait. For catching and relocating squirrels, we recommend the traps found at the link below.

Q.Hi, wondering if a raccoon or possum could reach through the wire mesh of this trap? I'm trying to trap a domestic rabbit that has been dumped, and found that some hay I had in the back of the trap was pulled through the mesh in the back and sides (Maybe to reach strawberries I have there) - blankets I had on the sides were pushed back to do so. Also trying to ensure that a bunny would be safe from predators in the trap. Thanks in advance for any help.

The spacing between the wire mesh is 1" x 1", so an animal with small paws could reach into the trap to a point.
