There’s nothing more frustrating than to look out and see an unfamiliar dog prowling around your yard. Whether it’s a stray dog or a neighborhood pet that the owner allows to run free, you can be pretty sure that it will view your lawn as a place to dig, relieve itself or generally wreak havoc.
If you’re like me, keeping your lawn in immaculate condition is a top priority, but you don’t want to use any product that will cause harm to the lawn — or the dog, for that matter. But is there really such a thing as a lawn-safe dog deterrent?
A Homemade Lawn-Safe Dog Repellent Isn’t the Answer
When you work in a greenhouse like I do, you hear about all types of homemade concoctions to use as a lawn-sensitive dog repellent. I heard a lot of good things about peppermint oil, so I thought I would give it a try.
I sprinkled some on the area of my lawn where a stray dog had been digging for several days, but it didn’t seem to have much of an effect, and I didn’t like the idea that I would have to go out and reapply it after every rainstorm. That’s when I decided to try Havahart® Critter Ridder®.
Critter Ridder®: An Effective and Lawn-Safe Spray to Deter Dogs
Critter Ridder® from Havahart® is made from natural ingredients including oil of black pepper, piperine and capsaicin. These powerful ingredients combine to irritate the dog’s keen taste and smell, driving it away and making it think twice about making a return visit to the area!
The ingredients also will not harm my lawn or the animal, making Critter Ridder® an effective and lawn-safe dog deterrent that is a more acceptable alternative to chemical pesticides that can ruin your lawn over time. I also like the fact that it’s rain-resistant, so I don’t have to reapply it every time it rains. In addition to the lawn-safe spray to deter dogs, you can also use the granular version to create a perimeter around gardens and other areas that canines tend to frequent.
I Used the Lawn-Safe Dog Repellent — and Loved the Results!
I simply sprayed Critter Ridder® on the exact spot where I had previously applied the peppermint oil, and it wasn’t long before I noticed an absence of dogs, as well as the occasional cat or squirrel that used to stop by. It’s good to know I’m using a lawn-safe dog repellent that really works!
