Pet Dog Health Tips Your dog's health should be a top concern. It includes everything from diet and exercise to vaccines, medication and even dog insurance. Every breed has distinct health concerns that you should keep an eye on, but there are also many basic health tips for all dogs. These can include: managing fleas and ticks, how to give your dogs medication, and even the best way to clean a dog's ears. | | | Keeping a first aid kit in your home is as important for your pet as it is for the rest of your family.
Please keep the following pet safety items in a convenient place in your home out of reach of children:
- Absorbent cotton - to help stop bleeding
- Non-stinging iodine solution (dilute with water) to cleanse wounds
- Medical tape - to use as a bandage adhesive
- Gauze bandage rolls - can be used on wounds and also as an emergency leash
- Sharp scissors with rounded safety tips
- Tweezers - to remove thorns, splinters and ticks
- Antihistamine for insect bites
- First aid ointment
- Cotton swabs - to cleanse your pet's ears or to apply ointment
- An extra collar with tags and leash
- An extra copy of your pet's medical records
- Photos of your pet (in case your pet gets lost)
- Your veterinarian's name, address, phone number and emergency hours
Please remember that first aid performed on your pet at home is not a substitute for a professional veterinarian.
