Organic Repellents

The ideal repellent needs to be specific for the target animal since it should drive away the critter that one wishes to repel without adversely affecting other animals, pets or people.

What are organic animal repellents?

Contact repellents are products topically applied or attached directly to a plant. Organic repellent sprays, concentrates, powders and granular products offer efficient ways to keep nuisance animals from your garden or lawn.

Organic repellent products work in two ways: deterring through scent or deterring through taste and scent.

The most commonly used scent repellents are putrescent egg based products. The most common organic scent and taste combinations use putrescent eggs and capsaicin.

How do organic animal repellents work?

The putrescent egg formula used in our OMRI Listed® organic animal repellents affects the animal instinct by stimulating a fear-based response to the odor that the animal associates with predator activity. The animal responds by avoiding the sprayed area without even attempting eating your plants & flowers.

Fear-inducing repellents contain degrading proteins which emit sulfurous odors, such as whole egg solids or animal by-products. NWRC (National Wildlife Research Center) tests demonstrated that generally the most effective products were those containing active ingredients (e.g., whole egg solids) which produced sulfurous odors.
