All About Voles - Control Options Voles, also known as meadow mice, are often mistaken for the typical house mouse. Gray in color, the most notable difference is the vole's much shorter tail. Voles cause problems to landscape, and gardens where there are thick layers of mulch. | | | Vole Control Options Live Vole Traps We suggest our Havahart® model 1020 for voles. The best location for the trap is where you see the activity. Voles rarely venture far f rom their home. We suggest baiting your trap with oatmeal, peanut butter and grains. It is VERY important to monitor the trap frequently when trapping for voles. Voles can not survive very long without food.
Vole Repellents Caps aicin is one of two registered active ingredient in repelling meadow voles. Critter Ridder® (which contains capsaicin) may be helpful in repelling voles from certain areas. Vole Habitat Modification It is very important to eliminate weeds, ground cover and litter around lawns, gardens, and crops. Close mowing is also key to reducing the capacity of voles to maintain a habitat in your area. Vole Exclusion The most effective way to exclude voles from damaging seedlings and young trees is to use hardware cloth cylinders. The mesh should be 1/4 inch or less in size. Bury the wire 6 inches in the ground to keep the voles from burrowing under the cylinder. Havahart® offers vole control solutions such as live vole traps to help you with your vole control needs. | | | |
