Chipmunks are cute little creatures members of the rodent family. They are usually inoffensive yet can become quite a nuisance.
Chipmunks can ruin landscapes by digging holes around your lawn and gardens. They can also enter your home in search of shelter.

| Chipmunks eating your bird feeder's seed or digging holes all over your lawn and landscaped areas? Currently there are no known (approved) chipmunk repellents on the market - live trapping and exclusion are the most effective methods of control. Havahart® recommends the following chipmunk control options:
Chipmunk Traps Live trapping is an effective chipmunk control solution in those cases in which chipmunk population is small.
The Havahart® live chipmunk trap model 0745 is an excellent traps for chipmunks. Chipmunks can squeeze through some traps that do not have a tight mesh pattern. Make sure that the trap you are using is recommended for chipmunks.
Check the route that chipmunks use more often and set the trap in the appropriate place.
Do not leave the chipmunk in the trap overnight as they are nervous animals and may die.
Check the trap often and if in agreement with local and state laws, release the animal in a suitable habitat at least 5 miles away.

Exclusion
If your home is in or near a wooded area in which the chipmunk population is large, then trapping chipmunks may be a never-ending task.
Exclusion would be a better approach to keeping your lawn and garden free of these critters.
Hardware cloth is a durable exclusion material. Be sure to use ¼ inch thick material, burying the cloth six-eight inches below ground to prevent digging and ultimately access.
